This card has been released numerous times throughout the course of the TCG. It originated in the {{TCG|Base Set}} as a {{TCG|Trainer card}} with artwork by [[Keiji Kinebuchi]]. It was included in the {{TCG|Trainer Deck A}} with a red border and "Trainer Deck A" printed on the back. This deck was given to prototype {{TCG|Pokémon League}}s before the TCG's market release in North America. In September 2002, it was reprinted in the Expedition Base Set with updated artwork by the same artist. This print was used until the release of {{TCG|EX Unseen Forces}} in August 2005, where this card was reprinted with new artwork by [[Shin-ichi Yoshikawa]]. It was later released as an {{TCG|Item card}} in the {{TCG|Black & White}} expansion with new artwork by [[Ayaka Yoshida]], first released in the Japanese {{TCG|Beginning Set}}. It was also released in the English {{TCG|Black & White Trainer Kit}}. This print was reprinted in the {{TCG|Boundaries Crossed}} expansion, first released in the Japanese {{TCG|National Beginning Set}}. It was again reprinted in the Japanese {{TCG|Everyone's Exciting Battle}} collection.

Potion was reprinted again during the XY Series in the {{TCG|Kalos Starter Set}} with new artwork by [[5ban Graphics]], first released in the Japanese {{TCG|XY Beginning Set}}. This artwork was later reprinted in the Japanese {{TCG|Xerneas Half Deck}}. It was reprinted in both Half Decks of several Deck Kits, namely the {{TCG|XY Trainer Kit}}, {{TCG|XY Trainer Kit: Bisharp & Wigglytuff}}, {{TCG|XY Trainer Kit: Latias & Latios}}, the Japanese {{TCG|Emboar-EX vs Togekiss-EX Deck Kit}} (which led to a reprint in the {{TCG|BREAKpoint}} expansion), and the {{TCG|XY Trainer Kit: Pikachu Libre & Suicune}}. In Japan, it was reprinted again in the {{TCG|BREAK Starter Pack}}. An unnumbered XY-P Promotional print was 1 of 9 cards available in special packs sent to Event Organizers in Japan starting July 2016, which were then distributed to participants of subsequent official events held by them. This print features the Event Organizer logo in the bottom right corner of the illustration. It was reprinted as a {{TCG|retro card}} in the {{TCG|Evolutions}} expansion, first released in the Japanese {{TCG|Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary}} subset, featuring the same artwork as the original print and an updated card template reminiscent of the Original Series layout.

Potion was reprinted again during the Sun & Moon Series as part of the {{TCG|Sun & Moon}} expansion with new artwork by [[Toyste Beach]], first released in the Japanese {{TCG|Sun & Moon Starter Set}}. This print was reprinted in the Alolan Raichu Half Deck of the {{TCG|Sun & Moon Trainer Kit: Lycanroc & Alolan Raichu}}, released April 21, 2017. It was later reprinted in Japan as part of the Ash Half Deck in the {{TCG|Ash vs Team Rocket Deck Kit}} and again in the {{TCG|Ultra Sun}} expansion. The {{TCG|Sun & Moon Trainer Kit: Alolan Sandslash & Alolan Ninetales}} included a variant of the Sun & Moon print. It has a 15 in a blue circle at the bottom right of the card, so the deck can be ordered for a practice duel. It was reprinted again in 4 of the 9 Japanese {{TCG|GX Starter Decks}}.

The Sword & Shield print was reprinted again in Japan in two of the nine {{TCG|V Starter Decks}}. The Sword & Shield print was reprinted once again in the {{TCG|Champion's Path}} expansion.
