:Most pages actually use a translation after the Japanese in italics (Bonnie, Kanto Route 1, EP001, Pound, Drizzle, etc.) The only pages which actively use romanized text are mostly Japanese song lyrics. (In short, the romanization policy isn't relevant to most pages since what belongs in the lead sentence is a translation rather than a romanization. The prevailing style is that of including translations rather than romanizations, and the relevant policy pages should probably be updated to that effect.) --Abcboy (talk) 15:14, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

::Why the italics, though? That really looks like another borrowing from Wikipedia, where it is explicitly used for romanized Japanese text (which is in turn based on common English writing practice).
::It also seems redundant to give a translated title that is the same as the official English title, to the point that telling our readers how to read the Japanese title would probably be more useful, and translations should be reserved for when the English title is not already a translation.
::Someone else brought up something similar to this on the talk page of BP:ROMANIZATION six years ago and no one ever got back to them; are all these decisions made by the editorial board?
