Route 30
On the second visit to 30, the Pokémon battle that had blocked the western road has ended, clearing the path northward.

Routes 30 & 31
Now that you've completed the errand for Professor Elm, the Youngsters that had blocked the western part of the route have ended their battle, allowing you to continue north on the way to Violet City.

31 is a small route that serves to connect 30 in the south and Violet in the west. The western entrance to Dark Cave is located here, but you won't be able to get very far yet, though you can catch a Geodude from there and raise it to learn Rock Throw if you wish to use it for the upcoming Gym match. Pick up the Potion near the cave and continue west. You can pick a Blk Apricorn off the tree by the pond, and grab a Poké Ball south of the nearby ledge.

The Sprout Tower is a towering pagoda run by Sages. Since these monks also train Pokémon, this is a good opportunity to train before challenging the Violet Gym. Enter the tower and go up the latter. Fight the first Sage and go down the latter to the east. Grab the Parlyz Heal, fight the Sage in the west and go up the latter. Grab the X Accuracy, fight the other Sage, and go up the latter. Grab the Potion and fight the three Sages. After battling past the other Sages, you find the red-haired guy having just defeated the head Sage. He says that he doesn't agree treating Pokémon with love, then uses an Escape Rope to leave the tower. Grab the Escape Rope in the east, then battle the head Sage. After defeating the elder Sage, you will receive 70. After receiving the TM, Trainers are free to challenge the Violet Gym.
Sprout Tower is a towering pagoda where Sages teach that all living things coexist through cooperation. Since these monks also train Pokémon, it's a good opportunity to train before challenging the Violet Gym.

The Violet Gym specializes in Flyings, so bring along Pokémon with Rock and Electric type moves to have the advantage and expose the Flying-types to their weaknesses. Step onto the wooden platform to be elevated high into the air. Like in Generation II, the Gym features a central walkway in the shape of an "S", but this time, Trainers can avoid the two Bird Keepers to battle Falkner immediately. His Pidgey isn't much of a threat, but be wary when fighting his Pidgeotto—it knows the move Roost, which recovers half of its health.
The Violet Gym specializes in Flying Pokémon. Clip their wings with Electric attacks, or knock them out of the sky with Rock moves. The traded Onix will be a big help, and Mareep can be found on 32 to the south. Avoid using Grass and Bug Pokémon. Step onto the wooden platform to reach the elevated walkway. This S-shaped battlefield has a Gym Trainer at each end, but it is possible to avoid both and reach Falkner immediately by traveling along the glass tiles.

Defeated, Falkner awards you the Zephyr, which ensures obedience from all Pokémon up to level 20, and enables the use of Rock Smash in the field. He also hands over 51 as a prize. Roost restores 50% of the user's maximum HP, and Flying types that use it are treated as single-type Pokémon until the next turn.

A Favor
Elm calls when you leave the Gym, and asks that you speak with his aide inside the Poké Mart. The aide asks that you take care of the IV, which will eventually hatch into a Togepi with the special Extrasensory move. The professor will call again when the Egg hatches, asking to see it; visit him with Togepi as the lead Pokémon to receive an Everstone.

Kimono Girl 1
Upon leaving the Poké Mart, you meet one of the Kimono Girls, five sisters from Ecruteak City's Dance Theater. She shows an interest in the "important" Egg, and asks that you take good care of it before leaving to the south.

Route 36
The next destination is 32 to the south, but detour to 36 in the west first. Speak to the man to receive 06, a move that can now be used anytime in the field, thanks to the Zephyr Badge. On Thursdays, Arthur of the Week Siblings can be found here; speaking to him will result in a Type-enhancing item on the first meeting, and a List of Ribbons in the games on subsequent meetings.

After defeating him, Falkner awards you the Zephyr, which makes all Pokémon of level 20 or less obey without question. The Badge also allows the use of Rock Smash in the field. He also gives out 51 as a prize.

When you leave the Gym, Elm calls you, asking you to speak to his aide. Unlike in Generation II, his aide is waiting at the Poké Mart, not the Pokémon Center. He asks you to take care of the List of key items in Generation IV; sometime later, it will hatch into a Togepi who knows Extrasensory, then evolve into Togetic who has a pretty good movepool, and finally Togekiss who knows Aura Sphere and Sky Attack. Once the egg hatches Professor Elm will contact you and wishes to see the Pokémon that hatched from it. If you talk to him with Togepi as your Walking Pokémon he'll give you a free Everstone. When you step outside the Mart, you will encounter one of the five Kimono Girls, five sisters who study at Ecruteak City's Dance Theater. She takes note of your character, and leaves to the south. Pick the Ylw Apricorn nearby, and leave west from the city to reach part of 36.
