Nonetheless, they admired each other and had fun playing, until one day when they encountered a wild {{p|Salamence}} that attacked them. Ruby attempted to defend Sapphire with his Pokémon, but suffered a {{m|Dragon Claw}} to his forehead which left a severe injury. The boy ended up successfully chasing away the Salamence, but Sapphire was horrified at the sight of his injuries and began to cry out of fear, much to Ruby's shock.
