A friend made me a Pokémon using a generator called PokéGen with my player's name and ID number. :Renaming a Pokemon only requires that the OT and ID are the same, while the experience boost requires the OT, ID or Secret ID to be different. Clearly the generator your friend got you is not setting the Secret ID to match yours.
