Shining Magikarp, a Shining Pokémon from the Neo Series

Shining Pokémon are a classification of Pokémon found in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. They depict the Shiny variation of a Pokémon. All Shining Pokémon are Basic Pokémon, regardless of their usual evolutionary stage.

Shining Ho-Oh, a Shining Pokémon from the Sun & Moon Series

Neo Series

Shining Pokémon were first introduced as secret cards in the Neo Revelation expansion. Shining Pokémon feature attacks that cost multiple different types of Energy, and they have a special rule that allows only 1 Shining Pokémon by name in a deck, rather than the usual 4. Magikarp and Gyarados were the first Shining Pokémon featured in the TCG, possibly chosen because of their appearances in early seasons of Pokémon the Series and Pokémon Gold and Silver.

A larger variety of Shining Pokémon appeared in the Neo Destiny expansion, with one for every type other than the previously-released Water. These cards' artwork feature a reflective foil treatment on the Pokémon itself, making the Pokémon literally "shine". Shining Pokémon in Neo Destiny have a unique rarity symbol, Shining Holo, based on the symbol used for Shiny Pokémon in the games.

In Japan, Shining Mew was released as an exclusive promotional card in CoroCoro Comic. It is holofoil with an additional glitter coating.

e-Card Series

Shining Pokémon do not appear in the e-Card Series. The Japanese-exclusive Shining Imakuni? P Promotional card is a parody of the concept, although it is a Trainer card that cannot be used at official tournaments. It features artwork of a bright light shining on Imakuni?. It is the only Shining card to be non-holographic; as such, it can be scanned by an e-Reader to play the Imakuni?'s Ball minigame.

Sun & Moon Series

After a long absence, Shining Pokémon returned in the Shining Legends special expansion and its associated products. In the Sun & Moon Series, Shining Pokémon no longer have a one-per-deck rule or multiple-type attack costs. Their holographic pattern is similar to the ones released in Neo Destiny. The Japanese subset of the same name introduced a new rarity symbol for these Shining Pokémon, Shining, a foil blue and yellow eight-pointed star. All the Shining Pokémon in the Sun & Moon Series are either Legendary or Mythical Pokémon.

In the Unlimited format, use of Shining Pokémon from the Neo Series can conflict with use of those from the Sun & Moon Series in deckbuilding. Because Shining Celebi from Neo Destiny states "You can't have more than 1 Shining Celebi in your deck.", no SM Black Star Promo Shining Celebi cards may be used in a deck alongside it. However, if the Neo Destiny Shining Celebi is removed from the deck, a player may include up to 4 SM Promo Shining Celebi cards as usual.

Sword & Shield Series

Shining Magikarp was re-released with a Pokémon 25th Anniversary stamp and special textured foil treatment in the Celebrations special expansion.
