For the rest of this game, your Pokémon take 30 less damage from your opponent's attacks (after applying Weakness and Resistance). If this Pokémon has at least 1 extra Energy attached to it (in addition to this attack's cost), discard all Energy from your opponent's Active Pokémon. (You can't use more than 1 GX attack in a game.)
In Japan, this card was included as a Regular card, a Full Art card, a Special Full Art card, and as a Secret Rainbow Rare in the Full Metal Wall subset. The Regular print features artwork by Mitsuhiro Arita, the Full Art and Rainbow Rare prints feature artwork by 5ban Graphics, while the Special Full Art print features artwork by nagimiso. The Regular, Full Art, and Rainbow Rare prints were included in the Unbroken Bonds expansion, while the Special Full Art print became a SM Black Star Promo available in the Power Partnership Tins. The Regular print was reprinted, alongside an entirely gold Full Art print, in the Japanese Tag All Stars subset.
Atsushi Nagashima, the game director of the TCG, has stated that he had intended to feature Melmetal on a TAG TEAM card, though the team had originally considered pairing it with another large Pokémon, such as Klinklang. Lucario was later selected as Melmetal's partner since its lithe appearance would contrast well against Melmetal's bulk.[1]Mitsuhiro Arita noted that the illustration's composition needed to properly showcase Melmetal's body, as it had been introduced much more recently than Lucario, and players would therefore be less familiar with it. As such, Arita's illustration for the Regular print emphasizes Melmetal's head while also depicting the rest of Melmetal's body.[2]
