List of Pokémon by sprite size in Generation II

This is a list of Pokémon by sprite size in Generation II.

Technical details

In the Generation II games, the field 0x11 of the Pokémon species data structure is a single byte which contains the Pokémon's front sprite dimensions. The high and low nybbles correspond to the width and height in tiles, respectively. Each tile is 8×8 pixels.

Available sprite sizes:

  • 5×5 tile sprites (40×40 pixels) are centralized at the bottom, with blank spaces at the top (2 tiles high), left (1 tile wide), and right (1 tile wide). The uncompressed size of each spriteGS or animation frameC in the 2BPP (2 bits per pixel) format is exactly 400 bytes. Their hexadecimal ID is 0x55.
  • 6×6 tile sprites (48×48 pixels) are located in the bottom-right corner, with blank spaces at the top (1 tile high) and left (1 tile wide). The uncompressed size of each spriteGS or animation frameC in the 2BPP (2 bits per pixel) format is exactly 576 bytes. Their hexadecimal ID is 0x66.
  • 7×7 tile sprites (56x56 pixels) occupy the entire sprite area. The uncompressed size of each spriteGS or animation frameC in the 2BPP (2 bits per pixel) format is exactly 784 bytes. Their hexadecimal ID is 0x77.

Please feel free to add any missing images to this article. Needed images can be uploaded to the Bulbagarden Archives.
Reason: Check for spacing issues. All the Pokémon sprites in this section should reflect how they are in the games: touching the bottom of each image, not in the middle of the image. The regular and Shiny versions of the same sprite should have exactly the same spacing.
