(Japanese: カナタ Kanata) is a character in the manga series Pokémon Chamo-Chamo ☆ Pretty ♪.

History

Prior to his first appearance, Kanata had been attending a boarding school for researching plants. However, in CCP11, it is revealed that he dropped out so he could pursue his own Berry research. He was told by his principal that if he acquired every Berry on a list given to him, he would be allowed to continue his education.

Some time after his introduction, Kanata befriended Haruka. In CCP13, he asserted that he could make better Pokéblocks than her, despite having no experience with them. The two had a Pokéblock-making competition with a Skitty as the judge, and it chose Kanata as the winner. After the competition, Kanata and Haruka argued with each other, but rekindled their friendship in CCP14.

In CCP16, when Clefairy was feeling insecure, Kanata gave him a bag of seeds and told him that if he were to plant them, they would grow into flowers with the power to give strength to whoever consumed them. When the flowers eventually bloomed, Kanata confessed to lying about their magical properties. He then explained that the flowers were very challenging to grow, and Clefairy's success serves as a testament to his strength.

Later on, Kanata received a Ninjask from a friend who did not want it. He tried keeping Ninjask at his home, but it grew restless and kept him up at night for several days. In CCP33, per Torchic's advice, Kanata asked Ninjask if it would like to become his Pokémon, and it happily accepted.

Prior to CCP41, Kanata spent months in Pacifidlog Town, where he waited for Mirage Island to appear so he could find a Liechi Berry, the last Berry on his list. When Mirage Island finally appeared, he realized there was no method of transportation to get himself there, and became determined to swim to it. Fortunately, a Pelipper who lived in the town asked a Wailord to assist him. With Wailord's help, Kanata was able to obtain a Liechi Berry and complete his list.

In CCP42, Kanata left for boarding school, taking Poochyena with him. In CCPB2, it was revealed that his dorm is near the house Haruka and Torchic moved to.

Character

Kanata is enthusiastic about collecting Berries, and is quite knowledgeable on all matters involving plants. His obsession with Berries often leads him to become oblivious to the world around him, as noted by Mightyena in CCP11. This has led him to mistake certain Pokémon as Berries and provoke them into attacking him.

He is typically friendly and easygoing, but has a competitive side to him, as shown in CCP16 when he taunts Haruka for her lack of skill in making Pokéblocks.
