Tornadus (Japanese: トルネロス Tornelos) was the second of the forces of nature to appear.

History

Black & White arc

Tornadus first appeared in A Stormy Time in the Battle Subway. He fought Thundurus in a field the Battle Subway train happened to be passing by. The intense weather created from the battle activated the train's emergency stop system, forcing it to wait until the weather cleared up. White, not wanting the train and field to be damaged during the battle, decided to step in and stop the two Pokémon, but her lack of skill as a Trainer prevented her from doing damage to either. Shauntal stepped in and attack the two with her Jellicent, but only succeed in enraging Tornadus and Thundurus further. Shauntal reveals that her intention was to provoke the two so that Landorus would be forced to appear and stop Tornadus and Thundurus from fighting. As Landorus takes Tornadus and Thundurus away, the three Pokémon are captured by Giallo.

Giallo later gave the forces of nature to the Shadow Triad to aid in their mission to steal the Dark Stone from the Nacrene Museum. During the mission, the Shadow Triad face the Unova Gym Leaders in battle, but are eventually defeated. Not willing to give up, the Shadow Triad summon Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus and have them trap the Gym Leaders in a vortex of their respective elements. Though they won the battle, the vortex accidentally destroyed the door to the safe house where the Dark Stone was held. After their attempt to forcefully open the safe house's door fails, the Shadow Triad have the forces of nature take the captured Gym Leaders to N's Castle.

The forces of nature were later given to Colress in order to figure out how to change them into their Therian Formes. In Cold Hard Truth, Colress, disguised as Hood Man, sends out Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus to battle against the Unova Elite Four. During the battle, Shauntal battles against Tornadus with her Golurk. Though he fails in transforming the forces of nature into their Therian Formes, Colress discovers the secret to their Forme Change is mirrors and sets out to find the correct mirror.

Tornadus battling the Swords of Justice

Two years later, Blake, hearing that strange winds were reported on Route 20, went there to investigate. Shortly after arriving, Tornadus appeared before him and transformed into its Therian Forme. Recognizing Tornadus's strength, Blake sends out Kelden to battle alongside Dewott. Kelden and Dewott's combination attacks overwhelm Tornadus, but it begins ignoring them to go after Giallo, who had rejected the decision to make Colress the new leader of Team Plasma. Tornadus grabs Giallo and attempts to take him away, but is soon frozen by Kelden's attacks. With Tornadus defeated, the Team Plasma Grunts controlling him recall Tornadus and retreat.

In Therian Forme III, Colress sent out Tornadus to battle against Blake at Driftveil City. Tornadus blocked Blake's Dewott's attacks, allowing Colress to run away with a captured Zinzolin. Not wanting to let his targets get away, Blake had Dewott battle against Tornadus while he chased after Colress. Soon after, Tornadus defeated the Discipline Pokémon.

In Deduction Time, Tornadus is sent out by the Shadow Triad alongside Thundurus and Landorus to fight the Swords of Justice. In The Final Battle: Crushed Ambition, the Reveal Glass was broken by Kelden, transforming it back into its Incarnate Forme. The Swords of Justice used this chance to defeat the forces of nature and the Shadow Triad, freeing the Legendary trio from Team Plasma's control and allowing them to escape.

Personality and characteristics

Tornadus is a powerful Pokémon, holding his own against other Legendary and Mythical Pokémon like Thundurus and Kelden. In its Therian Forme, Tornadus is incredibly fast, and was stated by Blake that Genesect's High-Speed Flight Form was inferior to the Cyclone Pokémon's speed. Rough weather typically accompanies Tornadus and he is said to never stay in the same place for more than five minutes. He has a strong rivalry with Thundurus, as the two battle so often it is common knowledge that Landorus is constantly restraining them from fighting.
