Cyndaquil (Japanese: ヒノアラシ Hinoarashi) is a Fire-type Basic Pokémon card. It is one of the MEP Black Star Promos.

Release information
This card is part of a series of Holofoil Full Art illustration rare-style cards that depict first partner Pokémon, released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. Each card in this series features the Pokémon 30th Anniversary logo.
In mainland China, this card is released as a 30th-P Promotional card in the "30th Anniversary Celebration — First Partner Pokémon Special Illustration Holofoil Card Set Vol. 2" product, which includes a random selection of nine Holofoil Full Art cards depicting the first partner Pokémon from the Johto, Unova, and Galar regions.[1] This card is released internationally as an MEP Black Star Promotional card included in the First Partner Illustration Collection Series 2, released on June 19, 2026, the same date as the mainland China release.[2]
In Japan, this card is released in the 30th CELEBRATION Card Set Chikorita & Cyndaquil & Totodile product on October 16, 2026.[3]
Trivia
This card forms a combined illustration with the MEP Promotional Chikorita and Totodile, together representing the first partner Pokémon trio of the Johto region.
Origin
Tackle is a move in the Pokémon games that Cyndaquil can learn. This card's Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon X, based on its entry from Pokémon Gold.
The illustration features various elements and locations from the Generation II games:
- Mt. Silver.
- The shrine inside Ilex Forest.
- A Pokédex.
- The walls inside the Ruins of Alph.
- The Goldenrod Radio Tower in Goldenrod City.
- The Hive and Zephyr Badges.
- A Pokégear and some icons representing its time, map, phone, and radio functions.
Additionally, the artworks across the three Johto First Partner Illustration Collection cards primarily use the colors gold and silver, representing the Generation II games Pokémon Gold and Silver.
