Viridian City (Japanese: トキワシティ Tokiwa City) is located in southwest Kanto, north of Pallet Town. In the Generation I games, the Team Rocket leader Giovanni is the Ground-type Gym Leader, but the gym is locked until you gain all seven other badges. Blue becomes the Gym Leader in the Generation II games and trains a variety of Pokémon.

Viridian City's motto is "The Eternally Green Paradise." There is also a very small, one-room, Pokémon Trainers School in the town.

There are three paths leading out of the city. Viridian Forest lies in the northern passage between Viridian City and Pewter City, along Route 2. South is Route 1 towards Pallet Town. West is Route 22, leading towards Indigo Plateau and the Pokémon League.
