Looking at the trivia, there's one that notes that Sentret's sprite is lighter-colored in the Hoenn, Kanto, and Sinnoh-based games than it is in either Generation II or HG/SS. Is it possible that this decision could be a deliberate one on the part of the creators to indicate that Sentret is non-native to those areas? Since it's caught in the Sevii Islands in FR/LG and traded to R/S/E, or caught with Poké Radar in D/P/Pt, it would make a lot of sense. The anime has already set the precedent for Pokémon having color variations when they are seen in different areas. It's just something I noticed, but I didn't want to add it to the trivia without discussing it first. In other words, there's nothing on Sentret that couldn't have come from a Meercat. Even the stripes and markings are similar to a meercat's. It could be just that people associate it with racoons more readily because racoons are more familar.

- Zeta - unsigned comment from Zeta (talkcontribs)

I'm looking more at the tail... - unsigned comment from Blackjack Gabbiani (talkcontribs)

How about a FERRET, considering most pokemon don't change what they're based on when they evolve, and Sentret could just as easily refer to a sentry ferret. - unsigned comment from Sk8torchic (talkcontribs)

Sprite Colors

PhantomJunkie 16:46, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Well, i found this site and yes, the Gen iv sprites are different, but the unova(isshu) sprites are of the same color that the johto sprites --EzekielMaple 17:47, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Flying squirrel? Emolga?

Is Sentret also shares the traits with Emolga? I noticed the article "It also shares traits with flying squirrels, sugar gliders, and raccoons", and Emolga is also based on a flying squirrel. Even Sentret also can breed with Emolga because of Field egg group. Does this mean Sentret and Emolga are flying squirrels? Special Stage Route (pit stop) 08:26, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Tanuki

Sentret could likely be based on the tanuki or japanese raccoon dog because of it's raccoon like-characteristics, round body resembling the tanuki's large belly, and it's tail resembling the tanuki's giant scrotum in appearance and position.Robbie (talk) 19:11, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Oh, for sure, especially with the feet placement. I don't know if it would be added, because I know Bulbapedia is pretty strict about assumptions and all that, but if it were my decision, I'd add it. I definitely see the resemblance. --Celadonkey (talk) 15:14, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
Sentret does have very bare resemblance with tanuki, especially the tails and coloring. But it doesn't resemble a tanuki at all. Special Stage Route (pit stop) 09:29, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
