The Nintendo DS Lite is a redesigned, lighter and brighter version of the Nintendo DS, comparable to the Game Boy Advance SP being a redesign of the original Game Boy Advance. Its charger input differs from Game Boy Advance SP and Nintendo DS.

- It is capable of wifi with the current Wii and the original Nintendo DS
Differences between this and the Original DS
- Weight: It is about 21 % lighter than the original which means it's weight is about 218 grams.
- Size: 133 mm × 73.9 mm × 21.5 mm compared to the original which was 148.7 mm × 84.7 mm × 28.9 mm
- battery life: With the DS Lite able to change it's brightness by 5 levels, it would take up more battery life the brighter you have it. The lowest setting you can have will make your battery life go for about 15 to 19 hours until you have to charge. After 500 charges the battery life is expected to drop.
- The stylus is thicker
- The hinges are sturdier
- The D-pad is about 18.6 mm across
- The battary adaptor is completely different than the original DS and the Gameboy Advance SP so that means you cannot use it for the other handheld systems
- The power button is now a switch that you have to push up and down instead of pressing a button.
- The design of this system makes the Gameboy Advance games to stick out for about 1 cm.
- The microphone is now located on the hinge between both screens.
