- Professor Oak's Pokémon lecture: Gligar
- This episode marks a year since Ash last earned a Gym Badge, by far the longest period between Gym Badge wins in the series.
- Unless East Sea Gastrodon is counted as a separate Pokémon, Gallade's appearance in this episode means that (with the expected exception of Porygon-Z) all non-legendary Generation IV Pokémon have appeared in an episode of the anime at some point.
- Pokémon Symphonic Medley 2, an instrumental of By Your Side ~Hikari's Theme~ (New Arrangement Version), and music from Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea and Pokémon 4ever are used in this episode.
