Growl or Uproar

When Roy commands Wattrel in the training match against Captain Pikachu, he says Sawagu, which is Uproar's Japanese name, not Growl's. So was the move mistaken all along or does Wattrel know both Growl and Uproar? Shinka (talk) 01:47, 12 August 2023 (UTC)

Wind Power

This is a copy+paste of what I posted on discord:

• A Wattrel only has two ability options, Volt Absorb or Wind Power. Volt Absorb we already know that it is not because it has already demonstrated this.

• On the other hand, Wind Power is the signature ability of Wattrel's family and was introduced in the same generation as it.

Ok, but this is games, different media.

In the episode, they showed that Wattrel only activated this when he received the gust of wind from the storm, and then managed to destroy the wood. Roy's strategy was to use precisely this "Up" in power to be able to have a chance with Captain Pikachu. He made Fuecoco gain enough height for Wattrel to receive the necessary "wind" on his return for the ability to be activated.

Wind Power's page says:

When a Pokémon with Wind Power is hit by a wind move or when Tailwind takes effect, it becomes charged, boosting the power of the next Electric-type move it uses.

When this Ability is triggered, the message "Being hit by <move> charged <name> with power!" is displayed, even if it causes the Pokémon with Wind Power to faint. If the opposing wind move causes the Pokémon to faint, Wind Power displays the message before the Pokémon faints.

The move that Wattrel used to destroy the wood was an electric-type attack, not a "wing attack". The same in the battle against Cap.

In both cases in question, the move was Spark.

Games=/=anime. You've been around long enough to know that. Just because Wattrel was two abilities in the games doesn't mean the writers have to restrict themselves to just two. The ability was not called out. The wording used was not in reference to this one individual's ability nor was it called an ability (特性; the term). The ability's Japanese name is a word that can easily be used in a non-ability context so not every mention of ふうりょくでんき means it's talking about the ability. Just like Whirlwind's ふきとばし was mistaken to be Whirlwind by the dub in EP032. So unless it was explicitly stated to be an ability (特性), not just a passing mention that could be taken in a non-ability context, Wind Power is not its ability.--ForceFire 17:33, 25 December 2023 (UTC)
