Wild Area News is a feature in Pokémon Sword and Shield that expands on the available Max Raid Battles in the Wild Area, making certain Pokémon more common for a limited time. It can be accessed via Mystery Gift or updated automatically by connecting to the internet in game. Wild Area News typically spawn different Max Raid Battles depending on the game version. Certain species of Gigantamax Pokémon, which are usually very rare, are often made more common through Wild Area News events. These events are also currently the only way to obtain Gigantamax Snorlax and Gigantamax Toxtricity.

Any den can spawn a Max Raid Battle from Wild Area News. And dens that do so will always beam a red light, indicating the "common" pool.

List of Max Raid Battles

The following lists, in reverse chronological order, the encounter rates for Max Raid Battles from different Wild Area News events.

January 31 to February 16, 2020

Milcery with the Gigantamax Factor, which do not normally appear in Max Raid Battles, became available for a limited time. The rewards included Star Sweets and Ribbon Sweets, which likewise cannot otherwise be obtained.[1]
