Chuck (Japanese: シジマ Shijima) is the Cianwood City Gym Leader. His specialty is Fighting-type Pokémon. Chuck gives out the Storm Badge to trainers who best him.
His English name means "manly and strong", but was probably chosen because it also means "to hurl an object". His origins could lie in the hollywood star and martial artist, Chuck Norris.
In the Anime
Just after Ash Ketchum and co left to pick up medicine for Jasmine in Olivine City, they met a man rough housing with a Machoke. After following him, Ash discovered that the fighting man was the Chuck, the Gym Leader of Cianwood City and the teacher of the students. After eating, Chuck and Ash had their battle for a Storm Badge. Ash used Pikachu who got defeated by Chuck's Poliwrath, so Ash had Bayleef defeat Poliwrath and Machoke.
