Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver (Japanese: ポケットモンスター 金・銀 Pocket Monsters Gold and Silver) were the first Generation II games to be released — November 21, 1999 in Japan and October 11, 2000 in the US. A sister game, Pokémon Crystal was released later, featuring some gameplay advances.
Trivia
- Pokémon Gold and Silver started the trend of having Legendary Pokémon as mascots, and the trend of using types of jewelry or precious metals as names.
New features
- Items are sorted by type in the bag: healing items, balls, and key items.
- A new region, Johto, is open for exploration, as well as is the original Kanto region.
- 8 more badges to collect.
- Apricorns make an appearance and are useful for getting new types of Poké Balls.
- The PokéGear was introduced, which had the functions Map, Phone and Radio.
- 100 new Pokémon to catch, including the version mascots, the legendary Lugia and Ho-Oh.
