Two-in-one

I feel like "counterfeit cards" should not be on the same page as "fan-made cards". They are two very separate things, and this page implies that the difference between them is as much as the difference between various types of fan-made cards. --SnorlaxMonster 14:46, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

On second thoughts, how important is it to note what fan-made and bootleg cards are anyway? They are both fairly obvious. Fake Pokémon exists because they are April Fools' jokes and Pokémon which were widely believed as fakes. We have the page hack games because it lists the fan-made games which are popular in the fandom. This page just states the obvious. --SnorlaxMonster 13:54, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
I wrote the initial article. What do you mean that it "states the obvious", and how is it any different than any other article that "states the obvious"? I wouldn't mind if this got split into two articles though. -- Nick15 19:14, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Oh also, mind you that this article originally was in my user space until it was approved by admins for transfer to the main space. I have no problems if this article was clarified, moved, expanded, etc., but I'd rather not see it deleted since it is still a part of the Pokemon community... albeit more geared towards the TCG community, which has a flourishing fake card aspect (both the legal "fan-made" and illegal "counterfeit" varieties). -- Nick15 19:20, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Well, my main problem is that there is a huge difference between counterfeit cards and fan-made cards. I would be happy if we just split those two off. However, do we really need to state what counterfeit cards are? Do we need to state what counterfeit games and other counterfeit merchandise are? I mean, it doesn't relate that much back to the Pokémon TCG as much as it does TCGs in general. It includes one example of a case relating to Pokémon, and how Pokémon cards can be deformed. I don't really have as much of a problem with fan-made cards. The article does need splitting off, but if someone else thinks that counterfeit cards should stay without another person who also believes it should be deleted, I'm not going to argue that it should go. --SnorlaxMonster 07:48, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
I think most of the information is pretty useful and relevant. A lot of people actually don't know this stuff; that's why they buy fake cards. The argument that it pertains more to TCGs in general is sort of invalid, because much of the information on here doesn't pertain exclusively to Pokémon. Take, for instance, the article on the Nintendo 64. I removed the deletion notice. However, I do approve of splitting this off into two separate articles. Counterfeit and fan-made cards are two very different things. --P o L i 14:32, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
I have no problem splitting this article up; in fact, if everyone will look at my userpage, that was my general intent all along. --Nick15 18:30, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
How about we delete the info on fan made cards and move this page to counterfeit cards?Mothim will rule all!-Wildgoose (and Dustox will too!) 03:36, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
When I get the chance, I will start working on the move and designing and writing the new pages, s'right? -- Nick15 13:17, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Coming back to this, I think at least the split between counterfeit and fan-made cards should be made. Since fan cards fall under Project Fandom i think, should be moved and expanded maybe a little? as for the counterfeit cards, i personally think it should stay on the wiki, as anyone my age might remember, fake cards were huge back when I was in elementary school, there were lots of big scandals with counterfeit operations worth six-digit figures, and i think it's useful to help fans learn how to distinguish real cards from counterfeits. (just like including catalogue numbers on CD articles) that's my 2 cents anyway. --ZestyCactus 19:26, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
