The player is a character in Pokémon Quest. They are not seen throughout the entire game, though late game dialogue indicates that they are a human. Their name is determined by the player as part of the game's introduction, with a limit of 12 characters.

They explore Tumblecube Island in search of the loot hidden on the island, befriending a great many Pokémon along the way. They are accompanied in this goal by a MoBee IV drone they brought along, named MoBee.

In the games

The player takes their boat to Tumblecube Island, docking somewhere in the vicinity of First Steppe. MoBee flies out first, only to crash soon after. The player restarts MoBee, inputting their name into the device at its suggestion. Mobee starts to deliver the news for the day, but the player cuts it off in favor of initiating their explorations. Following MoBee's advice, the player befriends one of the nearby Pokémon: a Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Pikachu, or Eevee. Then they head off on their first expedition, collecting both some ingredients and a Power Stone.

After that first expedition, the player picks out a clearing and sets up ther base camp. Their boat is docked there for the remainder of the game, and they also set out a pot. They incidentally discover that the Power Stone can be used with their Pokémon's Power Charm to increase the Pokémon's strength. A second expedition prompts MoBee to suggest cooking. By using their ingredients, the player makes a helping of Mulligan Stew a la Cube, which attracts a Pidgey and a Rattata. These Pokémon are befriended as well, With a full team, their expeditions start proper.

After defeating the boss Pokémon of the last stage of First Steppe, the player and MoBee come across the Prolfic Statue it left behind. MoBee explains that the statue is revered in the Chamber of Legends. The player and MoBee discover eight more statues over the course of their adventure, one at the end of every area of Tumblecube Island with the player carefully considering the purpose they could have served in the ancient past.

The player begin to show concern for MoBee's increasingly erratic behavior as more statues are collected. When the final statue, the Reverent Statue, is discovered, this culminates in MoBee breaking down again. The player hears the voice of Mewtwo from the Chamber of Legends. With no other choices and a path to the Chamber revealed by the statues, the player heads to the Chamber to investigate. The player encounters the formerly imprisoned Mewtwo, and Mewtwo engages their team in battle. The player is ultimately victorious, and Mewtwo leaves Tumblecube Island to recuperate. The player declares their expeditions complete, and returns to the base camp with their Pokémon.

The player laments that there was no great treasure on the island and the loss of MoBee, only for two things to happen. First, Mewtwo informs them telepathically about Happenstance Island and its mysteries. This prompts the player to continue exploring. Second, MoBee whirs back to life, and the player is happy to see it.

After reactivating MoBee:

"I'm not interested in the news right now, MoBee. I'd rather get to exploring this island. Would you go have a look around for me first?"

Following MoBee's suggestion to befriend a Pokémon:

"I see. Sounds like a plan. Let's try it out!"

After their first expedition:

"Hmmm, I think we can end our expedition for now. I need to find a place where I can set up a base camp."
"Oh, looks like I've found quite a nice clearing. I'll make this my base. What about that bizarre stone I found earlier? Is there some way I could use it?"

After learning about Power Stones and Power Charms:

"Looks like my Pokémon has gotten stronger. Guess it's time to start exploring!"
"Everything seems to be going fine, for now..."
"When we defeated that boss Pokémon, a statue that looks like a Pokémon was left behind. What in the world could it be?"
"The statue is carved in the shape of three Rattata, a Pokémon that can flourish wherever it is. Perhaps this statue is meant to symbolize such prosperity..."
"I've discovered a new statue. What could this one be?"
"The statue is carved in the shape of Poliwag, a Pokémon that has the power to use Rain Dance. If I were blessed with plentiful rains, I would never run out of water."
"I've discovered yet another new statue. This one makes three..."
"The statue is carved in the shape of Doduo. Maybe whoever made it believed that Doduo's physical strength would lead to successful development of the island."
"What's wrong, MoBee?"
"I've discovered another new statue. This makes four now..."
"The statue is carved in the shape of Cubone. If one can find peace, perhaps one can overcome even death."
"I've discovered yet another new statue. This makes five..."
"The statue is carved in the shape of Pidgeotto. If I were able to fly freely through the sky like Pidgeotto, I would never be troubled by stormy weather."
"I've discovered yet another new statue. This makes six... Just how many of these things are there?"
"This statue is carved in the shape of Tangela. Maybe the ever-growing vines of Tangela symbolize hope for a bountiful harvest."
"Again, MoBee?!"
"Huh?"
"I've discovered yet another new statue."
"The statue is carved in the shape of Golbat. I think I've heard that Golbat's wings can ward off evil..."
"I've discovered yet another new statue."
"The statue is carved in the shape of Rapidash. With the power of Rapidash, which is fire incarnate, even furiously raging fires could be controlled."
"I've discovered yet another new statue."
"The statue is carved in the shape of Arbok. Could it symbolize the rebirth that comes with molting, or the strength of Arbok's deadly poison?"
"The statue is carved in the shape of Gyarados. Such a majestic Pok—"
"MoBee?"
"MoBee?! You're acting strange..."
"MoBee started speaking in noisy gibberish and then broke down. But why?!"
"I can hear a voice from far out on that island..."
"I've got a bad feeling about this, but I guess I'll keep going."
"With this, all my expeditions on Tumblecube Island have come to an end."
"All right!"
"Time to head back to base!"
"I hate to admit it, but it seems I've been tricked by Mewtwo."
"However, the fact remains that I did thoroughly explore this island."
"Is there no loot out there...?"
"Ooh, that Mewtwo!"
"Oh well. If that's the case, I guess there's nothing to do but continue my expedition."
"Not sure how far I'll get without MoBee, though."
"MoBee?!"
"Well, good morning to you, MoBee!"
"Glad you're back!"
