Jack Walker (Japanese: ジャック・ウォーカー), or Jackie (Japanese: ジャッキー), is a protagonist in the movie Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea. Jack joins Ash Ketchum and friends in the middle of a top-secret mission that sees him delivering a Pokémon egg to the Sea Temple Samiya. This egg, which belongs to the Prince of the Sea, Manaphy, is said to unlock the secrets of the Sea Temple's treasure.

In the anime

In All That Glitters is Not Golden, Spurt!, the opening theme to the Pokémon television series, was updated to include Walker and fellow ranger Solana. This was the first time that a human movie character appeared in the anime arc, with the exception of Sammy, who appeared in the series to begin with.

Jack Walker is an athletic young man who decided to become a Pokémon Ranger after being saved from a blizzard by a group of Altaria, Swablu, Furret, Sentret and Shroomish. As such, he takes his duties seriously. He is voiced by Rich McNanna in English and Kōichi Yamadera (山寺宏一) in Japanese.

In the movie, after meeting up with Ash Ketchum and his friends, he decided to team up with them to help protect the egg containing Manaphy. When the egg hatched and Manaphy became close to May, he showed concern about their relationship, knowing they were getting too attached as it was Manaphy's destiny to leave them for the Sea Temple.

In the manga

Before Jack became a Pokémon Ranger, he was a member of the pirate Phantom's crew, and learned of his captain's plan to capture the legendary Pokémon Kyogre. Learning that Manaphy was the way of obtaining Kyogre, Jack stole Manaphy's egg and escaped from the ship, using a Mantine to escape.

Trivia

  • Most Pokémon Rangers are portrayed as having a "Partner Pokémon" who is with them at all times. Jack Walker was the first Ranger ever shown without one, although it is implied that the Phantom's Chatot may have remained with him after Jack befriended it during the flooding of the temple.
  • All of the Pokémon Jack is known to have captured are part Flying-type.
