Withdraw (Japanese: からにこもる Withdraw into Shell) is a non-damaging Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I.

Effect

Withdraw increases the user's Defense by 1 level.

Withdraw will do nothing if the user's Defense has reached a level of +6 or a value of 999. The effect of Withdraw is ignored by critical hits.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Withdraw is Squirtle's Special Side move. It hides into its shell and slides around the stage, damaging opponents it collides with. If it is attacked, Squirtle will come out of its shell.
