Spikes is a non-damaging Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation II.
Effect
Spikes sets spikes around the target Pokémon. In Generation III onwards, it can be increased by using Spikes again (up to the third time) after the initial Spikes was used. The damage inflicted by switching out will not occur on Template:Type2s or Pokémon with Levitate. In a double battle, Spikes affects all Pokémon in play. The only way to get rid of Spikes is to use Rapid Spin. The Secondary effect of Defog also clears spikes, but can only clear one's own spikes if used in a double battle on one's partner.
