Minun first appeared alongside Ruby's Plusle in Adding It Up with Plusle & Minun I, when they were found by Ruby on the Abandoned Ship. While Ruby was trying to pick some Berries, Minun Plusle attack him and his Pokémon before they can pick them. Ruby realizes that it must be wild Pokémon and tells them that they won't be able to hide from him. Using Mumu's radar, Nana and Kiki attack the Pokémon, revealing them. Due to finding them cute, Ruby decides to let the two off with a warning. When asked what they are doing on the ship, Minun and Plusle point to an old diary that had withered with age. Realizing that they were either separated from their Trainer or abandoned, Ruby pities the two and tries to comfort them. Minun and Plusle attempt to apologize for their behavior and give Nana, Mumu, and Kiki some Aguav, Mago, and Wiki Berries, respectively. Just as Ruby begins to trust the two, his Pokémon get confused due to their bodies being unable to digest the Berries. Angered, Ruby chases after the two as they high five at their success.
Two years prior to the chapter, Minun, along with Ruby's Ruby, was owned by a passenger on the Abandoned Ship. After their owner's death, Minun and Plusle became wild Pokémon and made the Abandoned Ship their home.
In the next chapter Ruby continues to chase after Minun and Plusle. After a while he stops and realizes that they've been following a set pattern in order to keep him from going near a particular door. As Ruby is about to go near it, a man from Team Magma knocks him out and thanks him for the info. Minun and Plusle attempt to stop him, but the man's Torkoal takes them out, and he discovers a diary on the floor that mentions Minun and Plusle's old Trainer worrying about the two and his Detector. Ruby and Sapphire decide to team up with Plusle and Minun in order to take out the Team Magma members. Ruby has the two confuse them with Double Team before attacking with Spark. Courtney uses her Ninetales's fire to destroy the Double Team. While Ruby tries to think of what to do next Tabitha's Torkoal knocks Minun away and pins Plusle to the ground. Ruby manages to negotiate Team Magma and gets them to release Plusle. As soon as they do Minun rushes in and uses Helping Hand to boost Plusle's attack, which makes Courtney drop the Detector. Victorious, Ruby and Sapphire, along with Minun and Plusle, make their escape, leaping out of the Abandoned Ship. The two Pokémon say their goodbyes as Ruby and Sapphire surf away.

Minun and Plusle reappear in With a Spoink in Your Step II on Mirage Island. The two of them decide to help Ruby and Sapphire perfect the art of Double Battles and become their Pokémon. Minun and Plusle are later used in a battle against Tate & Liza and their two Spoink. Ruby has Plusle use Fake Tears to lower their defense while Sapphire has Minun finish them off with a Shock Wave. After training for a week the four of them leave Mirage Island to go fight against Groudon and Kyogre. However, Ruby pushes Sapphire, Minun, and Plusle into an aircar and says that he will finish it by himself.

In It All Ends Now VI, Minun and Plusle attempted to open up a barrier that was created from the fight with Groudon and Kyogre. Sapphire notices that the more electricity they shoot, the bigger the hole becomes. Minun and Plusle continue attacking, but are unable to make a large enough hole to fit through. When all hope seems lost the Robot King shows up with the New Mauville generator. The generator's ability is used to absorb Minun and Plusle's electricity and release it at the barrier to make a hole large enough to travel through. When they get inside, Sapphire has Minun and Plusle attack Archie and Maxie in order to stop them.
When Ruby arrived on the Abandoned Ship in Adding It Up with Plusle & Minun I, Minun and Plusle began attacking him as a prank. When Ruby managed to discover the two pranksters' identities, Minun and Plusle used their cuteness to lure Ruby into a false sense of security before continuing with their antics. After seeing through their pattern, Ruby realized that Minun and Plusle were attempting to keep him away from a room, which he assumed to be holding a rare type of Berry. When Ruby attempted to open the room's door, he was attacked by Tabitha, a member of Team Magma, who aimed to take the Scanner held inside. Minun and Plusle attempted to stop Tabitha, but were easily defeated. Ruby and Sapphire team up with Minun and Plusle and use them to battle against Tabitha and Courtney. Through teamwork, Ruby and Sapphire manage to win the battle and escape, but lose the Scanner to Tabitha and Courtney. Afterward, Minun and Plusle say their goodbyes as Ruby and Sapphire head off to continue with their journeys.

History

Ruby & Sapphire arc

Minus activated

Two years prior to the chapter, Minun, along with Ruby's Plusle, was owned by a passenger on the Abandoned Ship. After their owner's death, Minun and Plusle became wild Pokémon and made the Abandoned Ship their home.

In The Beginning of the End with Kyogre & Groudon II, when Kyogre is awakened, it surfaces around Route 108, where it proceeds to blast the Abandoned Ship, destroying it.

Minun and Sapphire
Minun attacking the barrier

Minun and Plusle eventually arrive on Mirage Island, where they encounter Ruby and Sapphire in With a Spoink in Your Step II. They decide to assist Ruby and Sapphire by joining their teams and training with them to master Double Battles. Once their training had finished, Ruby and Sapphire leave Mirage Island and prepare to head to Sootopolis City in order to stop the clash between Kyogre and Groudon. Due to worrying about Sapphire's safety, Ruby shoves Sapphire, Minun, and Plusle inside Wallace's aircar and locks them in. He then goes off to stop Kyogre and Groudon, leaving the three behind.

Although Ruby succeeds in stopping the fight, he is attacked by Archie and Maxie shortly afterward. Minun and Plusle use their electrical attacks to try and open the barrier created during Kyogre and Groudon's battle, but are unable to make a hole large enough. They are assisted by the arrival of the Trick Master, who uses the New Mauville generator to boost Minun and Plusle's powers, giving it the strength needed to make a hole large enough to travel through.

After Ruby and Sapphire defeat Archie and Maxie, the two Leaders steal Wallace's aircar and use it to make their escape. By using Minun and Plusle, Ruby and Sapphire trap Archie and Maxie in a giant electrical sphere, finally defeating them.
