Mold Breaker (Japanese: かたやぶり Mold-Breaking) is an ability introduced in Generation IV. Twelve Pokémon have this ability.

Effect

In battle

Generation IV

Mold Breaker allows the Pokémon's moves to strike through any opposing abilities; e.g. Template:Type2 moves will hit a Pokémon with Flash Fire. Likewise, Pokémon with Water Absorb or Wonder Guard will have their abilities disabled and will be damaged by Water or non-super effective moves, respectively. The Levitate ability is also lifted, enabling Template:Type2 moves to hit those Pokémon. However, this does not enable Pokémon who are unaffected from a type by its own typing, rather than an ability, to get hit by the type that doesn't affect it through Mold Breaker.

When a Pokémon with Mold Breaker is brought out, the message "<name> has Mold Breaker!" will be displayed.

Mold Breaker nullifies the following abilities: Battle Armor, Clear Body, Damp, Dry Skin, Filter, Flash Fire, Flower Gift, Heatproof, Hyper Cutter, Immunity, Inner Focus, Insomnia, Keen Eye, Leaf Guard, Levitate, Lightningrod, Limber, Magma Armor, Marvel Scale, Motor Drive, Oblivious, Own Tempo, Sand Veil, Shell Armor, Shield Dust, Simple, Snow Cloak, Solid Rock, Soundproof, Sticky Hold, Storm Drain, Sturdy, Suction Cups, Tangled Feet, Thick Fat, Unaware, Vital Spirit, Volt Absorb, Water Absorb, Water Veil, White Smoke, and Wonder Guard.

Generation V

Mold Breaker does not ignore the effects of Mummy.

Outside of battle

Mold Breaker has no effect outside of battle.
