Meowth (Japanese: ニャース Nyāsu, officially Nyarth) is a member of a Team Rocket trio, together with Jessie and James. He is voiced by 犬山イヌコ Inuko Inuyama in the original, and Madeline Blaustein in English.

Once, Meowth lived on the streets. In order to impress a female Meowth named Meowzie, he learned how to speak human language. She rejected him and Meowth went on to join Team Rocket, where he proceeded to butter up Giovanni.

There has been some debate as to whether or not Meowth was ever the Boss's 'Top Cat' (personal pet). He has stated himself as such in front of Giovanni with no objection (only to say that Persian was now in that position). Yet in The Origin of Love and Youth, he was shown to have been present at the Headquarters for a short time, during which time we see that Persian is already there. (However, it should be noted that The Origin of Love and Youth contradicted other stated facts from previous episodes regarding Team Rocket's backstory).

Meowth is an amorous cat, falling in love frequently (not, obviously, as much as Brock, but still a fair amount). Objects of his affections include Cassandra the herbalist, the aforementioned Meowzie, May's Skitty, and another Skitty (NAME OF HOSO GOES HERE).

He has also, since late Johto, had frequent fantasies about presenting Giovanni with various Pokémon. These fantasies often involve whatever creature it happens to be assisting the Boss in his daily routine. Some examples include running a blow dryer (Elekid) and cracking walnuts (Trapinch).
