A group shot of Johto

Johto was the sextet that recorded most of the songs on the Totally Pokémon soundtrack. Most of the songs were fronted by one or two of the members, with the rest providing background vocals. The only exception was Pokérap GS, which featured all members equally.

According to Shauna McCoy's personal website, auditions for a "Pokémon pop group" took place in June 2000 in New York. The six members were hand-picked by John Loeffler and his team at Rave Music, who produced and composed most of the music for the U.S. localization.

The CD was recorded that fall, and although a promotional tour was planned, it was apparently canceled, and the album was ultimately released with little fanfare. No further songs were developed, but marketing efforts combined the "Totally Pokémon" songs with new ones for the third movie soundtrack, released in April.

Although Johto has disbanded since the release of the repackaged soundtrack, their songs still occasionally appear in the anime.
