Ruins in Guyana, depicting Mew

Guyana was briefly seen in the ten-minute short added at the beginning of Mewtwo Strikes Back in the Japanese extended version of the movie: an expedition team funded by Team Rocket was seen traveling through a jungle somewhere in Guyana (never called by name) while in search of Mew, and they found a fossil of Mew's eyebrow. The short was omitted from the international theatrical release of the movie, but it was later included as an extra in the Mewtwo Returns DVD: before that, the first two minutes of the short (entirely set in Guyana, unlike the rest of the short) were added to the beginning of the movie in the international extended version. In Mewtwo Strikes Back the first scene with Mew after the title screen is also presumably set in Guyana.

In the radio drama The Birth of Mewtwo Guyana is not mentioned, but South America is mentioned in relation to Team Rocket's long search for Mew, which leads to a discovery of a fossil of Mew's eyebrow.
