Disguise (Japanese: ばけのかわ Disguise) is an Ability introduced in Generation VII. It is the signature Ability of Mimikyu.

Effect

In battle

Once per battle, when Mimikyu with the Ability Disguise is hit by a damaging attack or hits itself in confusion, it will take no damage. When this effect activates, it also causes its appearance to change: battle text will say "Its disguise served it as a decoy!", and the head portion of the disguise falls limp, followed by the text, "<Pokémon>'s disguise was busted!". Disguise will not be used up by entry hazards or weather damage. If Mimikyu's Disguise is busted, but it faints and is then revived, Disguise will be able to take a hit once more.

Disguise only blocks damage, and does not prevent other additional effects of damaging moves, such as getting paralyzed by Nuzzle. Disguise does not affect status moves.

Sound-based moves and moves used by Pokémon with Infiltrator cannot bypass Disguise for those reasons alone. If a Pokémon with Disguise has a substitute, the substitute will take damage before the Disguise.

Weakness Policy will not activate if the Disguise takes the damage.

Pokémon with Mold Breaker, Teravolt or Turboblaze and those using Moongeist Beam or Sunsteel Strike ignore Disguise, hitting through the disguise without busting it.

Outside of battle

Disguise has no effect outside of battle.
