- This is the first episode that features a cold open format. It consists of scenes showing what will happen throughout the episode later on.
- Brock's Croagunk is added to Together and By Your Side ~Hikari's Theme~.
- An instrumental version of By Your Side ~Hikari's Theme~ is used as background music during the second Piplup vs. Buneary battle.
- Professor Oak's lecture: Gym Leaders
- The footage in this segment is of Juan's Pokémon in his battle with Ash. Of Ash's Pokémon, only Pikachu and Swellow are shown.
- Pokémon senryū: ジムリーダー いのちをかけて かかってこい Jimu Riidaa, inochi o kete, kakatte koi
- Dawn narrates the next episode preview.
Errors
- In the beginning where Dawn was inside her tent panicking about her hair, Ash wasn't wearing any shoes . Later on, he was wearing them.
- In the beginning where Dawn learns about the multiple Officer Jennys, Brock claims two Jennys are not identical twins because the Jenny whom they were talking to had a different length of hair and eyelashes. Identical twins can of course have different lengths of hair and eyelashes.
