Upon arriving at Viridian City you will see a Pokémon Center, if your Pokémon ever need healing this is the best place to go. Your options are limited upon first arrival as an old man blocks the way north to Route 2, and the only other Route is a waste of time until you have all eight badges from the Indigo League's Gym Leaders or Pokéballs to capture Pokémon.
File:PkmnYHidden1.PNG If you follow the trees to the left of the old man counter-clockwise, the tree you come to has a Potion hidden on it.
Directly to the left of the Pokémon Center is a sleeping man who will give you TM 42 containing Dream Eater, unfortunately Cut or Surf is needed to get to him. Also directly above the Pokémon Center is a school where you can learn more about the game your playing, such as Status Changes
To the right of the Pokémon Center is the Pokémart which is where you need to go to advance the story. Upon first arrival you don't get a chance to buy anything because the owner asks you to run an errand for him he gives you Oaks Parcel and asks that you deliver it for him. So back to Pallet Town we go.
Pallet Town Revisited
There is only two reasons we are here on this occasion but if needed your Mom can heal your Pokémon. First you need to give Prof.Oak his delivery and in return he will give you and Gary a Pokédex.
File:PkmnYTMap.PNG Once you get the chance to leave, pay Gary's Sister a visit and she will give you a Town Map which can be viewed from your Item List.
After your done return to Viridian City and you are now able to buy Pokéballs from the Pokémart.
You can now catch Pokémon!
Planning for the first Gym Battle Your first Gym Battle is against Brock who uses Ground/Rock Pokémon. Pikachu is lacking against these types this early in the game so it is worth planning your party in accordance.
- On Route 22 Mankey is catchable and at Level 9 he learns his first Fighting Type Move Low Kick.
- Also on this Route are Nidoran♂ and Nidoran♀ who both learn Double Kick at Level 12.
Other Pokémon can chip away at Brock's Pokémon but for an easy time, try using one of the above.
