History
Pre-series
Charizard was likely Friede's first Pokémon, as it knew its Trainer's childhood friend Orla, his teacher Lucca, and his mentor Ludlow.
As shown in HZ018, Charizard was in the Paldea region on Ludlow's boat relaxing while Friede was fishing until its Trainer got a call to met up with Lucca. Through Lucca, Charizard met a wild Pikachu that tried to fly and tried to become friends with him, but to no avail. However, after flying Friede to the sky with Pikachu, Charizard help its Trainer save the Mouse Pokémon from falling and he joined their team. After that, Charizard reunited with Orla in Hoenn as she converted Ludlow's ship into an airship, which became the Brave Asagi, and its teammate was nicknamed Captain Pikachu. Also, Charizard joined Friede when he with Orla and Ludlow formed the Rising Volt Tacklers.
Sometime later, Charizard met a wild Fuecoco and befriended it when it came to live on the Brave Asagi, and the Fire Croc Pokémon came to admire it.
Pokémon Horizons: The Series
Charizard was first seen in HZ001 when Friede came to Liko's rescue after Amethio tried to get her pendant from her. Friede used Charizard in his battle against Amethio's Ceruledge. Charizard dodges Ceruledge's Psycho Cut, only for it to nearly hit Liko who was trying to escape sending her flying off the Indigo Academy's room. In the next episode, Charizard caught Liko and her Sprigatito and flew them with Friede back to the Brave Asagi for safety. Using its Flamethrower, Charizard helped get the Brave Asagi moving, only for the Brave Asagi to come under attack from the Explorers. Once the Explorers boarded, Friede rode on Charizard to confront them in battle.
In HZ005, Charizard was used in the battle against Amethio's Corviknight. Corviknight managed to keep the battle fairly even despite having a type disadvantage. The battle ended without a winner when Amethio decided to go after Liko and her pendant again.
In HZ014, Charizard and Friede pursued Spinel's Magneton, who was the cause behind the Brave Asagi's failure to reboot its system. They chased it all the way to Levincia, where they were cornered in a dark alleyway by Magneton and Beheeyem. Despite getting outmatched at first by the combined efforts of Magneton and Beheeyem, Friede Terastallized Charizard into a Dark type to fight off Beheeyem's Psychic, and ultimately forced them to retreat after a Tera Blast.
In HZ017, Charizard was used in a training battle with Captain Pikachu. Upon seeing its idol's performance in battle, Fuecoco was motivated to participate in a training battle alongside Wattrel against Cap.
In HZ022, Charizard participated in a battle against the Explorers. However, when a Galarian Moltres that had an Ancient Poké Ball appeared, Charizard continued to battle the Explorers while Captain Pikachu battle the Legendary Pokémon. Unfortunately, Captain Pikachu was left injured, but Charizard kept battling with its Trainer while Liko, Roy, and their Pokémon left the Galar Mine in order to help its teammate recover. In the next episode, Charizard and Friede meet up with Captain Pikachu, Liko, and Roy at the Motostoke Pokémon Center, after they escape the Galar Mine. Charizard then battled Moltres again in order to calm it down, teaming up with Wattrel to help blow some of Liko's Sprigatito sweet scent and Leafage to sooth the Legendary Pokémon. After Moltres calmed down, the Legendary Pokémon return to its Ancient Poké Ball.
Personality and characteristics
Charizard is shown to be a strong Pokémon, as seen in HZ001 when it was used to battle Amethio's Ceruledge. Despite this, Charizard is shown to be friendly and playful with other Pokémon, as seen in HZ004 when it used its tail so that Fuecoco could jump over it. The friendship between Fuecoco and Charizard was shown again in HZ006, where realizing how close Fuecoco had become to Roy, Charizard gave Fuecoco a Poké Ball so that both could begin their journey.
