Caterpie (Japanese: キャタピー Caterpie) is a non-player character in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team.

Caterpie is first mentioned to the player and partner by his mother, Butterfree. Butterfree gives the player and partner their first mission of the game, to rescue Caterpie from Tiny Woods after it had gotten lost. After saving it, Caterpie expresses the wish to join the rescue team when it grows up.

Later, Caterpie asks the player to save his friend, Metapod, who had gotten lost in Sinister Woods. Team Meanies overhears this and also decides to go and save Metapod, saying that if they did so, Caterpie would have to join their rescue team and they would claim an award from his mother. The player character and partner eventually beat Team Meanies and rescue Metapod, reuniting Caterpie and Metapod. After this, they are often found near Whiscash Pond together.

After the player and partner beat the Mankey in Uproar Forest, Caterpie and Metapod help out in remodeling the player's Team Base, using their silk to stick pieces together.

After the player and partner defeat Rayquaza, Caterpie appears on top of Hill of the Ancients to celebrate the victory once the player and partner wake up. A few days later, he informs the player and partner that Snubbull had evolved.
