Riley examines the Steelix. He says that Steelix had used Rock Polish to raise its speed but was still defeated, so he changed his plan. After a while Riley and Riley get attacked and their eyes are sealed by honey. They got attacked by two Roughnecks and they reveal that Lucario's sense was blocked by Mothim's Air Slash. Diamond decides to battle instead of Riley. He commands Tru to use Razor Leaf but Vespiquen defends it with Defend Order. Diamond then starts to explain that the speed of the leaves depends on how many leaves are shot out. He then commands Tru to use Razor Leaf with only one leaf. As a result, Vespiquen is knocked out, making the bees panic and Mothim confused. Lucario quickly finishes the Roughneck with Bone Rush, Flash Cannon, Aura Sphere, and Close Combat. The Pokémon Egg is also secured.
As he stands by the weakened Steelix, Diamond spots a moving shadow. Riley runs to Diamond, pointing out that he is facing the same Steelix that is the leader of the Pokémon who live in the abandoned mine. By reading Steelix's aura, Riley determines that it had lost to a fast-moving foe. Riley decides to delay Diamond's final challenge, instead choosing to investigate the caverns and find out who harmed Steelix.

As they enter the lower levels of the cavern, Diamond tells Riley about the shadow he saw. Riley finds this strange, explaining to Diamond that he and Riley should have been able to sense anyone's aura. Suddenly, Riley and Lucario are struck by an unknown attack, knocking them into a pit. Diamond runs down to him and sees that there is honey spread over his and Lucario's faces. Riley assures Diamond that he is fine and still capable of detecting any potential opponents by sensing their auras.

To Riley's surprise, two Roughnecks announce their presence behind him. They command a Vespiquen to use Power Gem, hitting Riley and Diamond, as well as their Pokémon. The Roughnecks inform them that they knew of Riley's ability to read auras and planned an "aura seal" to render him incapable of fighting back. Diamond demands to know why the men are attacking them, and they reveal that they have already found the Pokémon Egg from Diamond's challenge.

The Roughnecks explain that they are commanding a Mothim to use Air Slash all over the cavern, which is acting as the aura seal that exists to disrupt Riley's senses. They reveal that they used Vespiquen's Attack Order to blind Riley and Lucario with honey, and that the same attack had been used to take out Steelix.

Seeing the speed of the Roughnecks' Pokémon, Diamond declares that he will be the one to defeat them, as this will provide a great opportunity for him to prove himself against a fast opponent. Just as Riley worries that Diamond is going to have Tru use Razor Leaf against such a quick opponent, Diamond calls out that exact move. The attack weakly clashes against Vespiquen's Defend Order, and the Roughnecks laugh at its slow pace.

Diamond commands another Razor Leaf attack, and the men laugh once more at its slowness. To their surprise, Diamond compliments Tru, and reveals that he has learned how to control the amount of leaves in each Razor Leaf attack. Riley realizes that by using less leaves, each leaf hits faster. Diamond reveals that when he left the tent the night before, he had been training Tru for this very trick—aiming precisely while using a single leaf. The Roughnecks taunt Diamond, and before he can even finish calling out another Razor Leaf attack, Vespiquen is struck by a single leaf. It causes the Vespiquen to drop the Pokémon Egg into a pile of leaves that Tru had launched from its previous Razor Leaf attacks.

One of the Roughnecks commands Vespiquen to use Heal Order, but its drones are too panicked. The drones distract Mothim from disrupting Riley's senses, and he and Lucario are able to unleash a flurry of attacks against the Roughnecks. After tying up their opponents, Riley and Diamond smile at each other as the Egg is safely in their possession.
