A scripted battle is a battle in which the player cannot influence some or any factors of the battle, and it is pre-determined by the game what happens.
In the core series games
- Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, and LeafGreen: At the Pokémon Tower, there is a scripted battle against the ghost of a Marowak. In this battle, Marowak cannot be caught, only defeated.
- Pokémon Sword and Shield: At the beginning of the game, there is a scripted battle with ZacianSw/ZamazentaSh. In this battle, they are only known as ???, and cannot be defeated or caught.
- Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: At the end of The Way Home, there is a scripted final battle against a KoraidonS/MiraidonV. In this battle, the player cannot use any other Pokémon except their Koraidon/Miraidon, who cannot faint from attacks. If the player does not defeat the Koraidon/Miraidon fast enough, the game will automatically force them to Terastallize and use Tera Blast.
In the spin-off games
- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky: There are several story bosses where the player still loses in the story despite winning the boss battle.
- In Star Cave, there is a scripted battle against Bagon's team in Bidoof's Wish. It does not matter whether the player wins or loses this battle; the story progresses the same way with Bidoof needing to be rescued by the other members of the guild.
