Taking on a new form
As soon as you open Pokopia you'll be greeted by a snoozing Ditto. Press A three times to wake them up. When they do, you'll be able to choose your appearance. There are two presets, but you can mix and match any part that you like from either design so don't worry about making the wrong decision. You'll be sent to the customization menu where you can further fine tune your appearance including clothes, hairstyles and colors next.
Once you are unleashed into the world, you should walk over and talk to Professor Tangrowth. You will then hear a noise coming from behind him. Search his shopping cart and you'll receive the Pokédex. You then need to tell Tangrowth your name. This you can't change later so choose wisely.
Saving Squirtle
Follow the Professor outside of his cave. When you see a ledge in the terrain you can simply push up against it to climb up. Eventually you will reach an outcrop of land. Speak to Professor Tangrowth and he will tell you more about the Withered Wastelands.
After this you will find a Squirtle lying on the ground. Go to the Squirtle and press A to talk to them. They say that they have dried up, and need the water from another Squirtle in order to feel better. They will then teach you Water Gun, which you will learn via Transform. Make sure that Squirtle is targeted within the illuminated cross, and use ZR to spray them with Water Gun to revive them. This will enter Squirtle into your Pokédex.
Your first inhabitant
You can then begin to build habitats and attract more Pokémon. One Pokémon can live in each habitat. The most important one for now is the Tall Grass habitat. You can unlock this by watering four patches of grass that are touching. You can also unlock the Pretty Flower Bed habitat by watering a group of four wildflowers.
After a little time a Pokémon will be attracted to the Tall Grass habitat. Watch for the moving patch of grass, and then press A near it to investigate. Bulbasaur will then pop out of the grass. Once you have added them to your Pokédex speak to them again and they will give you a request. They will complain that the ground around them is too dry.
Use Water Gun to moisten more of the ground around Bulbasaur. You will know that they are satisfied when they have a speech bubble above their head. Speak to them again and they will teach you the move Leafage. This will allow you to plant patches of tall grass wherever you like. You can use left and right on the D-pad to switch between the moves you have learned.
Some final requests
The next habitat that will be required is the Tree-shaded Tall Grass habitat. For this you will need a tree surrounded by four patches of grass. Use Leafage and Water Gun together to create this habitat. While we wait for our next Pokémon to move in, Squirtle will come to you with a request. Build a new Tall Grass habitat and talk to them again to allow them to move in. This will allow their affection to rise.
Professor Tangrowth will then ask you to gather Leppa Berries. These can be used as gifts for other Pokémon to raise friendship and they are great PP restoring items to use after you have depleted your moves. Headbutt a tree when you are near it by pressing A, then collect the berries by holding Y to suck them all in. You can then talk to a Pokémon if you want to give it to them.
As night falls
Once you have fed another Pokémon, speak to Professor Tangrowth again. He will give you a log chair. Press A to place it somewhere, and A again to sit on it. This will cause night to fall. Bulbasaur will then ask you to follow them, and will take you to a nearby Workbench. Talk to Bulbasaur and open the crafting table and you'll be rewarded with your first recipes.
You should have enough material to build a campfire, so do this first. Show it to Professor Tangrowth, and place it near him to warm everyone up. Make another Tall Grass habitat, and after a short while a Charmander will make their home there. After you have added them to your Pokédex press up on the D-pad to get them to follow you. Walk over to the campfire and Charmander will automatically set it alight.
Professor Tangrowth will then tell you that if you make the world beautiful again humans may return. You decide that you will work together to rebuild the town and everyone calls it a day.
