Walkthrough:Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky/Chapter 11
Grovyle
After returning to town, you learn another Time Gear was stolen, and this time it's the one from Fogbound Lake.
Everyone in the guild is upset and your partner nervously suggests it might have been fellow guild member since no one else knows about it. Everyone is disturbed they would suggest this and your partner quickly apologizes. Dusknoir interrupts, confused that there was a Time Gear at Fogbound Lake that the guild didn't tell him about when they recounted their expedition there.
Uxie is under the protection of Magnezone now and thanks to Uxie's victim statement the thief is revealed Grovyle. Wigglytuff vows that the guild will catch the thief and the guild's full effort is put to the task. Everyone is taken off of their normal duties to make sure the next two Time Gears are safe from Grovyle. Your team is going to Northern Desert, a place rumored to have a Time Gear.
Northern Desert
Northern Desert is 15 floors and features primarily Ground-type, Rock-type, and a few Grass-type. This dungeon has a weather condition called Sandstorm on floor 6, 10, and 11, causing damage every few steps for many Pokémon. Larvitar can also summon the weather condition with the move Sandstorm. Because two of the types present, Ground and Grass, are defensive against Electric, Electric is not recommended. There aren't many items to be found here so stock up in advance.
This dungeon has traps, but no Monster Houses.
- Baltoy: F IQ Group. Has Levitate, granting it one of the few true immunities. Doesn't have anything particularly interesting in moveset, but could be useful to get around Earthquake or Magnitude. Its exclusive items give it chance to seal attackers' moves and absorb Dark-type damage.
- Cubone: F IQ Group. Has Bonemerang, two-hit projectile move, as well as Rage and Focus Energy. In postgame learns Bone Rush, which is a multihit move. Not only that, but it has coverage via TMs, such as Blizzard, Flaemthrower, Aerial Ace or Focus Punch. Its exclusive items makes its thrown items keep going until it hits something, as well as Grass-type damage absorption.
- Aron/Lairon: E IQ Group. Has Mud-Slap, Roar and Take Down (with Rock Head to prevent recoil), learns Protect, Metal Sound, Double-Edge and Metal Burst (which is a counter that hits multiple tiles) at postgame levels. Can learn Water Pulse and Shock Wave via TMs for range, as well as Aerial Ace and Shadow Claw for coverage. Its exclusive items prevent critis, reduces damage from explosions to 1 and absorbs Fighting-type damage.
- Cacnea/Cacturne: C IQ Group. Has Leech Seed, Sand Attack and Pin Missile, eventually learns Faint Attack and even Cotton Spore at postgame levels. Surprisingly learns Focus Punch, Drain Punch and Brick Break via TMs, as well as Dark Pulse and Poison Jab. Has Sand Veil, making it immune to sandstorm damage and dodge attacks better in it. Its exclusive items increase its Movement Speed in sandstorm and absorb Bug-type damage.
- Larvitar: C IQ Group. Unfortunately, since it is the pre-evolved form of a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, it doesn't have that notable of a moveset quite yet, though it learns Sandstorm, Screech, Scary Face and Dark Pulse all by level 28.
- Sandshrew: D IQ Group. Learns Fury Swipes, Rollout, Fury Cutter and Sand Tomb, as well as Sandstorm at postgame levels. Has quite the coverage in TMS: Focus Punch, Aerial Ace, Shadow Claw, X-Scissor, and Poison Jab. Has Sand Veil, which it can abuse on its own since it gets access to Sandstorm move. Its exclusive items give it a chance to cause cringing status on attackers, reduce damage from explosions to 1 and absorb Fighting-type damage.
- Trapinch: D IQ Group. Has Faint Attack and Sand Attack; eventually naturally learns Dig, Earth Power, Sandstorm... but is very slow at learning moves, and it learns these via level-up only in this form. It learns moves around every eight 8 levels, with its last move being at level 89, and its TM compatibility not being that good. Its exclusive items increase its Evasion in sandstorm, makes it immune to the threatening sleep Status and makes it absorb Ice-type damage
- Carnivine: A IQ Group. A Grass-type with Levitate, which is an interesting combination. Unfortunately its moveset isn't too much to write about, aside from possibly Faint Attack. Its exclusive item makes it restore 10 extra HP when eating a Berry or an Apple.
- Rhyhorn: E IQ Group. Has Lightning Rod and Rock Head. Learns Fury Attack, Scary Face and Rock Blast, Take Down later on and even Megahorn at postgame levels. It can learn quite the many moves via TMs: Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Shock Wave, Dragon Pulse or Poison Jab. Its exclusive items reduce damage from explosions to 1, cause it to ignore Reflect and Light Screen and make it absorb Grass-type damage (removing one of its double weaknesses)

Mission Failed
You're not the only who found nothing. No one found any hint of a Time Gear as well! Chatot and Dusknoir are dissapointed, but Dusknoir blames his own lack of knowledge before resolving to try again tomorrow, sending everyone off to dinner.
The Search Continues
Chatot tells the guild to search for Time Gears on their own accord while he and Dusknoir come up with a new plan. Your partner muses about where to search when you remember the feeling you had back at the quicksand pits at the end of Northern Desert. You tell your partner about the feeling and agree to head back. When selecting Northern Desert, it automatically sends you to the quicksand at the end.
Back at the Quicksand
Your partner still seems to think all that's hidden here in more quicksand, but you suggest jumping into the quicksand. Your partner is surprised but trusts you again and together you jump into the quicksand.
You drop into a cave below the quicksand, proving you right and you begin searching the new area, Quicksand Cave.
Quicksand Cave
Quicksand Cave is 10 floors, a rest stop, then 10 more floors. The type is primarily Ground and Rock, and Sandstorm weather is possible here.

- Nincada/Ninjask: D IQ Group. Nincada has Compoundeyes while Ninjask has Speed Boost, making its Movement Speed permanently increase every 250 turns... but that gets reset on each floor, so it's not as useful as it sounds. Nincada has two moves via level-up that Ninjask can't learn in this game: Mud-Slap and Metal Claw, learning them by postgame levels . These two are one of the few Pokémon that learn Mind Reader, which can be linked with their Fury Swipes for a strong attack. Surprisingly has access to Shadow Ball and Aerial Ace even as Nincada. Its moveset does expand quite nicely as Ninjask: Screech and Fury Cutter, Agility at postgame levels and Silver Wind via TMs. Their exclusive items increase natural HP recovery and grant Rock and Ghost type damage absorptions.
- Vibrava: Trapinch's Evolution. Loses Bite, Crunch and Earth Power, but has Supersonic, Screech and DragonBreath instead, as well as Silver Wind via TM. It only has only one Ability now, the very useful Levitate.
- Pupitar/Tyranitar: Larvitar's Evolutions. Pupitar doesn't change too much, but Tyranitar is a pseudo-legendary Pokémon and its moveset does easily live up to it, having the elemental fangs at low level and also massive TM compatibility, giving it access to many moves with great range, power, or some other use. Since this is Generation IV, its Sand Stream will also effectively passively increase its Sp. Defense. Unfortunately its low recruit rate makes it unrecruitable for now.
- Skorupi: C IQ Group. Has access to Pin Missile, Scary Face, but most importantly: Acupressure, the only line other than Doduo with easy access to this powerful move. Its abilities make it impossible to crit and make its crits stronger, giving it somewhat of an edge. Its exclusive items give it chance to inflict attackers with Shadow Hold and absorb Ground-type damage.
- Mawile: C IQ Group. It has access to Sweet Scent and Faint Attack, though no natural Steel-type STAB until very late. It learns Fake Tears, but nearly every offensive move it learns naturally is physical; though has quite the TM compatibility, learning Focus Punch, Flamethrower, Ice Beam (but not Blizzard), Focus Blast, Sludge Bomb, and Shadow Ball. Its exclusive item gives it chance to seal attackers' moves.
- Sandslash: Sandshrew's Evolution. It has Crush Claw in its level-up moveset and Focus Blast via TM compared to Sandshrew.
- Hippopotas: E IQ Group. Its movepool isn't too notable, but it does have Water Pulse via TMs, as well as Sand Stream as ability, allowing for sandstorm usage on the go. Its exclusive item increases its Evasion in Sandstorm (which will be almost always true given its ability) and gives it Grass-type damage absorption.
Boss Battle
You reach an underground lake and see the glow of a Time gear in it. Your partner wants to get a closer look but are attacked by Mesprit, who believes you are the one stealing the Time Gears since Uxie from Fogbound Lake told her about the stolen Time Gear through telepathy.
Mesprit is guaranteed to know Future Sight, which makes all its attacks deal flat 30 damage for a while. The other three known moves will vary between the following: Rest (remember, Rest doesn't heal the user immediately in these games), Confusion, Imprison (which pauses the target instead of sealing moves), the very annoying Protect, Swift and Lucky Chant.
After defeating Mesprit in battle, you're trying to convince the guardian that it's not you stealing the Time Gears, only for Grovyle to appear and announce that you're telling the truth before attack Mesprit and your team, easily knocking you aside. Mesprit believes you now, but Grovyle has already snatched the Time Gear and tells you to flee as time in the area begins to slow.
