User talk:Salmancer/Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki template draft

NOTE: This is a pretend documentation page

This template is used to link to articles on Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki. Unlike other templates, three links are generated. One leads to the general page for Pokémon information, the other leads to a game specific page. They can be hidden as needed.

How to use

The template has five parameters. Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki is divided into namespaces based on topic, making the normal cross wiki link process somewhat more fraught. Don't worry, this guide will make you a pro!

The first parameter is a freebie, as it is a unnamed parameter for the page you want to link to. In most cases, this happens to be the page on Bulbapedia where this template is being used on, so feel free to leave it blank. Next up is linktext, an optional parameter which allows you to override what is displayed as the link on the page.

Step two is toggling off pages that don't exist. This takes the form of two parameters, nometa and nopkmn Use these, but leave them blank, when the page they would be link to does not exist.

The fourth parameter is namespace, which is used to direct the game specific link link to the correct wiki of Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki. There are multiple options, but only ones likely to be used are listed. If there is no need for the game specific link, hide it with the nogame parameter like the other two

Namespace Parameters
Namespace Reason
Rescue Team Elements of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team
Explorers TD Elements of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness
Explorers of Sky Elements of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky
Adventure Squad Elements of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (WiiWare)
Gates Elements of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity
Super MD Elements of Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon
Rescue Team DX Elements of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX

Some examples might help with the understanding. Here's a default:

{{User:Salmancer/Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki template draft}}

will create

Mystery Dungeon Franchise
Mystery Dungeon Franchise
Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki has one or more articles on this topic.
For information specific to each game, see the following:
Rescue Team, Explorers TD, Explorers of Sky, Adventure Squad, Gates, Super MD, Rescue Team DX

And we can hide links with the "no" parameters.

{{User:Salmancer/Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki template draft|nopkmn=|nogame=}}

will create

Mystery Dungeon Franchise

Let's try looking at namespace paremeters. For example, linking to Gates of Infinity wiki and no other pages.

{{User:Salmancer/Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki template draft|nopkmn=|nometa=|namespace=Gates}}

To link to a specific article, copy the page title as an unnamed parameter. For example, to link to Pikachu, type:

{{User:Salmancer/Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki template draft|Joltik|nometa=|nogame=}}

To get:

Mystery Dungeon Franchise
Mystery Dungeon Franchise
Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki has one or more articles on this topic.
For a broad approach, see Joltik

You can also change the link text using the |linktext= parameter. For example:

{{User:Salmancer/Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki template draft|Joltik|nopkmn|nometa=|namespace=Gates|linktext=Example text}}

Creates:

Mystery Dungeon Franchise
Mystery Dungeon Franchise
Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki has one or more articles on this topic.
For a broad approach, see Example text
For information specific to each game, see the following:
Rescue Team, Explorers TD, Explorers of Sky, Adventure Squad, Gates, Super MD, Rescue Team DX

The average example winds up looking something like this. Usually nometa is used because most articles aren't nonfiction.
