Template talk:Lop/contest/DPPt
For the list format, my preference would definitely be for the menu sprites. It works nicely for the Battle Facility lists, which is what I've based this template off, creating a very easy to read & consistent style. Visual Competition sprites would be the most appropriate for sure, but unfortunately by the later ranks they end up much larger than 80x80px and very irregularly shaped, which would throw off the column width & row height uniformity - a primary concern when dealing with readability. The battle sprites would be my second choice after menu sprites; the rows might end up needlessly tall if we use them, but they would at least be consistently tall. - Since the page was already using full battle sprites in the party-style templates, I have always hoped that we would be able to upload and use the sprites with accessories (as well as sprites with props for the Pokémon Musical). While I understand the desire for relatively compact rows in a list style, I personally feel like the encyclopedic completeness of (eventually) using the dressed up sprites outweighs that. When you first proposed the new style I quickly tried to make my own design to try to optimize for the larger sprites but was pleasantly surprised to see that they worked even better in your design and IMO, don't make the rows excessively tall. If we decide the accessory sprites are too big for the table and move them into a gallery or something, I see no reason to use the regular battle sprites over menusprites.--MisterE13 00:15, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- I've come around to the idea. It looks better than I expected, especially on the Gen III page. I would prefer the static sprites, as the animations are causing inconsistent sizing; Onix is 94x94, Glameow is 100x100 etc. Don't know how that would be done, if it's even possible. I also saw your alternate design and quite liked it; I think there's potential to tweak it a little and then replace the infoboxes on the Super Contests page with it. Enough room to also include move effects in the box, which is something that's unfortunately lacking from both the current design and my lop design. Lagnic (talk) 00:52, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oversized animations won't be a problem if we get the dressed up sprites. Unfortunately nobody else has ever uploaded them and I don't have the exact placement data or the photoshop skills to make them all.--MisterE13 05:27, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Working on it today :) Lagnic (talk) 12:57, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

It appears that emojis cause some issues and the template won't work if we just include them copy-pasted.
[1] sounds similar but I can't follow the thread to figure out if there's a solution - unsigned comment from Lagnic (talk • contribs)
- I discovered that some mobile operating systems were converting all the hearts which were meant to display as text with a definable colour into red heart emojis. I think this comment comes from an intermediate revision where I tried replacing the coloured hearts with red and white heart emojis. Since then, I found ♡ which is not converted into an emoji by those OSes.--MisterE13 00:15, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah it's pretty unfortunate that the mobile browsers do that. I found that using the html codes doesn't crash things (💖💖🤍) and would definitely prefer to use these hearts as they have a consistent width. Lagnic (talk) 00:58, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- I think using a red heart is better than the pink one with sparkles.--MisterE13 05:27, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- You're quite right, but I didn't know how to get the red heart to work, kept showing up as ❤. Glad to see you got ❤️ working Lagnic (talk) 12:57, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
