Milk & berry jam
I know Bulbapedia has some format rules when it comes to capitalization, or plural vs singular, and I agree that the title of the articles should follow that. However, Pokémon Café ReMix is very particular with the capitalization, opting for lowercase most of the times. And it's not just a stylistic choice applied in general, because it does use capital letters in very specific cases, for example Charizard's Paint the New Year outfit vs most of the outfits which are written like Start of summer or Royal winter. When it comes to gimmicks, it also makes a differentiation with the use of 'and' or ampersand. Not to mention, it only capitalizes the first letter of the name, and not the individual words:
- Salt and pepper shakers
- Shaker & milk
- Milk & berry jam
Here's a direct screenshot from the game:
It also makes a distinction as to which gimmicks are called out in plural vs singular, for example Pumpkins vs Gummy. Again, I know Bulbapedia prefers the singular for the articles, but the game very rarely refers to them as such, and I think at the very least the Gimmicks navigation template should honor that. I had already changed the names to reflect exactly how they're written in the Help menu, but my change keeps getting reverted. If it's because it needs to match the article's name, then we should rather change the article to how it's written in the game with the ampersand. PokemonSpears (talk) 04:50, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- On the ampersands, the Manual of Style does allow use of up to two of them in a title. If they're consistently formatted in game (and on official sites?) with ampersands then I wouldn't be opposed to aligning with this. Thespeon (talk) 11:37, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- @PokemonSpears We usually try to match how these topics are referred to in dialogue/prose rather than menu titles/lists, so that would be the best source of reference, if possible. You are correct though that terms that are always referred to in the plural can and should be titled that way. Landfish7 11:48, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- You're also correct that gimmicks should be referred to in sentence case, as they are not presented as proper nouns in game dialogue, e.g. "the rock salt gimmick", which would make the page title "Rock salt". Landfish7 11:56, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- Regarding the ampersand, I believe it is specifically not used in dialogue, e.g. "shaker and milk" is used, but this may be due to them appearing as separate objects mechanically, with the overall gimmick using the ampersand to represent them as 1 gimmick collectively i.e. "Shaker & milk", so I think it's appropriate to use the ampersand in the page title, but we may be careful about when we do and do not use the ampersand in written prose. - It does look like "milk & berry jam" is used in an in-game newsletter. Landfish7 12:32, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- Pumpkins is an awkward one, as the individual object is clearly a singular pumpkin, so I'd be interested to see if there's any newsletters or anything that shows if this gimmick is truly always referred to in the plural. If it is, I think it'd be a similar case as to "Shaker & milk". in which we'd title the page "Pumpkins" but may still use "pumpkin" when referring to the individual objects mechanically. - Just checked, and indeed in-game dialogue does show "a pumpkin" being used to refer to a singular pumpkin object in the puzzle. I would usually lean towards "Pumpkin" as still the appropriate title for the gimmick, but I suppose it depends on your perspective - if the Gimmicks menu calls it out as "Pumpkins" then that does seem conclusive as the name of the overall gimmick, even if the objects are referred to in the singular. Conversely, I imagine we'd call "Gummy" the title of that gimmick, but the mechanics could still have us referring to multiple "gummies", which is also used in-game. And to reiterate, if we title these pages "Pumpkins" and "Gummy", we'd still use lowercase in prose i.e. "the pumpkins gimmick" and "the gummy gimmick". Landfish7 13:52, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- After some further thought, the inconsistent pluralization leads me to believe we'd be justified in titling the pages in the singular to make searches and linking simpler and more predictable for both readers and editors. If we want, we can still use the Gimmicks menu list for things like the nav template, though I don't necessarily think we have to put so much weight into how the gimmicks are listed there. - Yeah, sorry for making a fuss about this topic. I just wanted to have a clarification on what style or format we should use for these articles. I know there are guidelines on Bulbapedia, but it also irks me to see things not looking like in the game. I mean, it already irks me that Pokémon Café ReMix is like that when almost every other game uses Title case for moves, items and such, but that's the way it is... 😩 PokemonSpears (talk) 04:51, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- No worries! I'm glad you said something so we can take a deeper look. If there's no further considerations, we'll probably go forward with moving Milk and Berry Jam to Milk & berry jam and Shaker and milk to Shaker & milk. Landfish7 05:25, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
