{{ding}} is used to display special characters using the font from the Pokémon Global Link, which supports certain dingbats available for use in player-entered text in the Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS core series games. See Character encoding (Generation IV) and Character encoding (Generation V-present) for additional details.

Either the Unicode encodings from Generation V or the Nintendo 3DS games can be used, depending on the context. In contexts relating to Generation IV, the Unicode encoding from Generation V should be used. If a private use codepoint is used, use the HTML escape for the character (e.g. {{ding|}}) instead of including the character directly in the page source.

Several characters are included for compatibility only, and should generally not be used:

• ♩ produces ♩ (a fullwidth black spade suit) like the PGL font does. Use ♠ instead.
•  produces  (a narrow no-break space) like the PGL font does. Use the Unicode codepoint U+202F   NARROW NO-BREAK SPACE instead.
