Google Translate says that the Japanese Name of Veluza's category translates to either "Cut Off" or "Separation" Pokemon.HenryWong122 (talk) 22:13, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

Trivia or inspiration-wise, might be worth considering that Veluza filleting-away might be a reference to rockets/space shuttles that shed parts of their construction mid-launch. Might explain the metallic or robotic appearance as well. This video shows the resemblance: https://youtu.be/S_gjoafppNQ?si=4Vnee8QGan4Sn6pZ Headsprouter (talk) 02:15, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- I can see the resemblance, although idk how much of this is inspired by rockets and how much of it is just inspired by the simple logic of "if you shed excess weight you go faster". There's even a whole anime trope about it, characters handicapping themselves during training by wearing heavy weights or whatever so that they become much more powerful and agile when those weights are eventually removed. As for Veluza's "robotic" look, i think it's just a coincidence from having a silvery fish scale body + segmented parts (which are actually shaped like fish fillets). anZAsquiddles 2222(:D)SSSS (talk) 07:07, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah I see how you could disagree. The whole body, even the inner sections being so angular, symmetrical and sectioned really makes me think they wanted it to appear somewhat constructed though, along with the red eye appearing blank and drone-like when compared to other fish pokemon. Jettison is definitely a word used in aviation where expendable parts are discarded though, and the Japanese category name could also be interpreted as referring to this idea.
