Wild Pokémon using Run Away

When I was playing Platinum, I encountered a wild Ratatta. It fainted one of my Pokémon and when I tried to escape, I couldn't. However, the message "The wild Ratatta fled!" appeared on screen after this and the battle ended. I'm assuming it had the ability Run Away, and if that's true, then in how many generations can wild Pokémon use the ability? Does anyone know? AGGRON989 20:55, 15 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

I was able to replicate this somewhat against a wild Raticate in Diamond (I checked its Ability with Trace to make sure it was Run Away). As far as I can tell, it wasn't that my attempt to flee failed, but that its Run Away Ability caused the success message to be displayed as "The wild Raticate fled." I think this is simply an error in the displayed message. --SnorlaxMonster 18:48, 20 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes, consistently, whenever I fled after a Pokémon of mine fainted against an opponent with Run Away, the message "The wild <opponent> fled." was displayed. --SnorlaxMonster 16:51, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

I can confirm this on Pokemon Pearl with Ponyta that Run Away functions as "The wild [Pokemon] fled!" when fleeing after being defeated instead of the normal message "Got away safely!". However, it was only if my Pokemon that fainted was faster than the wild Pokemon with Run Away. If my Pokemon was slower, I would just get the usual 'Can't Escape!' message.[User: xCrossedPoisonx] 18:07, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

Ability with negative effects

Why is this listed as an ability with a negative effect? I would have thought being guaranteed to run from battle whenever you chose to was a good thing. Well maybe if it was a shiny and you tried to run away by mistake Megalorex (talk) 13:58, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

ty I forgot to look at things other than the main series Megalorex (talk) 23:38, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Run Away in EoS

It says “In the Explorers series and Gates to Infinity, Run Away also protects against becoming Stuck by moves like Mean Look, or Abilities like Shadow Tag, when the HP drops below 50%.” I don’t know if it’s just a mistake in the wording and it’s not actually meant to imply otherwise, but I know for a fact that in Explorers of Sky at least, a Pokémon’s HP doesn’t need to be 50% or lower in order for Run Away to protect from being Stuck. Bypassing traping moves and abilities

Yes, a wild Pokemon can still escape with Run Away.

I used Spirit Shackle on Tamdemaus and it still escaped the next turn. Nino938 (talk) 19:59, 28 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Isn't Tandemaus immune to Spirit Shackle due to being a Normal type? ¿¡Unowninator?! (talk) 03:22, 1 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I never thought of that. Nino938 (talk) 18:26, 3 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I did the exact same thing on Gimmighoul.
It got away. Nino938 (talk) 17:41, 6 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ever since gen 6, Ghost types can switch/escape regardless of anything, including Spirit Shackle. ¿¡Unowninator?! (talk) 21:22, 6 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I thought of that yesterday, so I'm trying Maschiff. Nino938 (talk) 16:59, 7 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
