Feather vs Wing

The japanese name of the move is "Haneyasume," translated here as "Feather Rest." However, "Hane" can also mean wing, and it can be learned by a bunch of things with wings but not feathers, so I'm wondering if "Wing Rest" might be a better translation? The Golux 22:11, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Giratina and Roost

I think I was able to teach my Giratina the move Roost using the TM, but until someone confirms this as possible I'm not going to edit the page. --M. Burusu 08:00, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

It isn't possible unless it is hacked... so if you got ove GTS it might be hacked... Crystal Lucario 12:18, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Wait? What!?

Duxtox and beedrill aren't flying types but can learn roost?! Does not compute! Does NOT compute!--Quick Man 02:27, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Mew. Smeargle. Latias. Latios. There's a bunch who aren't Flying that learn it. TTEchidna Fire echy 06:12, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
The move is just used for HP recovering, the loss of FLying-type is ignored. TESHIGIGAS 14:15, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
And except for Mew of that list, all of the mentioned Pokémon have wings. What puzzles me tough, is that DUNSPARSE can learn it by LEVEL UP. What is with that? It doesn't even have wings... --Alex S. 22:30, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Uh... yeah, it does have wings... The Dark Fiddler - Smarter than the average bear! 22:31, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, they're those little white thingies on its back.--Kkllnn blastoise 22:33, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Just a bit of curiosity.

If you make a Smeargle Pure-Flying type with Conversion, what type does it become if it then used Roost? --Phred 23:56, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

It changes back to Normal. I tried it myself. Baby G 16:23, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
This must be one reason why Arceus can't learn Roost. (Although if this is true then this would happen also, if Arceus did know Roost and held a Sky Plate. TorchicBlaziken 17:51, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Loss of flying type?

By losing flying type, does the pokemon also loose weaknesses to electric, rock, STABs, etc.? The Dark Fiddler 14:50, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

As far as I know, yep to all. But it's for that one turn, right? Sipulichu 15:24, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Let's take Gliscor as an example, a Flying and Ground typed Pokémon.
If it uses Roost, for the rest of that turn, it will be just ground typed. The flying type is restored afterwards for STAB and typing advantages.
I know it regains it's type afterwards as an Earthquake missed after a Roost, but a Brick Break did 1x damage rather than the normal 0.5x for a flying type while roosting. Gywall(Talk) 15:27, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Which brings up a point...

What if a Smeargle Sketched this and Skill Swap, then swapped skills with a Kecleon, got hit by a Flying move, and then used Roost to recover the HP? TTEchidna 17:27, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Roost and Conversion could also create the necessary combination.
Although I haven't tested it myself personally, odds are the programmers knew combinations like this were a possibility and programmed for those. It's a lot like ???-type Arceus, actually...--Shiningpikablu252 17:34, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
The user of Roost effectively becomes ???-type for the rest of the turn. It will have no resistances or weaknesses. However, I'm not sure if it really became ???-type in the game's data, or if it just has no type at all. (A possible way to test this would be either hack the ROM to make ???-type have certain weaknesses or resistances, or hack a Sky Plate Arceus with Roost and see if it changes formes after Roost.) Blueapple128 23:29, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
HACKING CAN REALLY BE USED THAT FAR!? Man, it HAS to be hard to do, though...
Someone should hack a Pokémon to be pure flying type and use it. Or just hack an Arceus to learn Roost. Would the game crash or would it just have no type?! Do we know Roost makes the Pokémon 'loose' the flying type? Maybe it just loses the weaknesses and resistances of the type (after all we can't have it use a Flying move to check for STAB if it's taking it's turn using Roost) I know it's been a little while since anyone has said anything about this but I'm still curious.. [[Derian]] 13:59, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Well......I justed test it using a Smeargle with Roost and Conversion, after using Roost and Normal, Fighting and Psychic type moves damage are normal effectiveness, I just suspect it turning into a no weakness and resistant ??? typechungkingpun 14:43, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Oh it also hit by Ghost type moves in normal effective chungkingpun 02:04, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

When hacked onto a Tornelos or Sky Plate Arceus in Generation V...

...what type does the Pokémon become after Roost is used? Since the ???-type was removed, does it crash the game? What happens with a Porygon, Porygon2, Porygon-Z, Smeargle, Kecleon, or any other single-typed Pokémon that has become pure Flying via Conversion or Color Change and then used Roost? There are a lot of questions not answered in this article. Bwburke94 18:42, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

In Generation V pure flying-type pokemon using roost become normal-type. Pikiwyn talk 19:02, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

When hacked onto Rotom-F in Generation V...

An extension of the above. Due to Rotom-F being a Flying-type with Levitate, its ability appears to be useless for it, and only maintained for the purpose of Skill Swap and similar effects, along with if it is imported from Generation IV. However, what happens when Roost is used by it or any other Levitating Flying-type? Bwburke94 18:53, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Roost has no secondary effect on pokemon with levitate. Pikiwyn talk 19:02, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

??? Arceus

I know Arceus can't learn this move but would this move be the reason that Arceus has a ???- type in the game data of Diamond and Pearl? If hacked it will change Arceus to a ???- type. Nickvang 19:49, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

I think the reason was that Curse was a ???-type move at the time, due to this it was involved in the games typing data, and due to Multitype they had to program it could get STAB and so they had to create the ??? form to stop the game breaking. I'm not sure if that was the entire reason though. --Spriteit 13:48, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Type Effectiveness

Not sure if this is a glitch or not; but yesterday I was playing on random matchup(free single battles) and I encountered a Skarmory on the opposing team who first used stealth rock (I used fake out before that) and then I used ice punch(it was wearing rocky helmet) and then it used brave bird on my Pokémon(a Kangaskahn). Afterwards; before I could get my attack in, it used roost; and then I used drain punch. It registered as a neutral attack; where, to my understanding, it was supposed to be a super effective attack because roost makes the user lose its flying type and Skarmory is steel/flying type; right? I'm not sure if this is a bug or a glitch or something; but I was fairly confident I'd be getting a super effective attack in on Skarmory. Anyone know why this happened; and should this be added to the glitch section or something? Venus253 14:35, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
