Talk:Pokéxel

Marketing says X ≠ Y, Game says X = X Who wins?

We have a conundrum. While I was making MoBee, I noticed that the actual game appears to never ever use the term Pokexel. The tutorial text just says that these are "Pokemon on Tumblecube Island". This presents a no fun policy question, in that the distinction between Pokémon and Pokexel appears to not actually exist in universe. (This does not appear to apply to Rumble, which as far as titles go recognizes the concept of Toys.) Soooo, what do we do? My opinion on the matter is to scour all Quest pages clean of "Pokexel", but keep this page. It appears the term is only used on the main Quest page, so unless the search engine is celebrating April Fools early (but there's a non-zero chance it is), it wouldn't be very difficult. I feel as though I should clarify. The issue here is that this term was created for one game, and then that game decided that the whole "blocky Pokémon" thing is just a art style. (I just replayed the tutorial, which you would think would point out the cube aesthetic if it existed in world. But it doesn't.) Which makes my eye twitch because player character articles indicate that marketing material is put at lower priority, and this page is using marketing material as the title where the game does not. Oh and a search for Pokexel turns up 1 page: the press release. [1] Other Quest pages don't use "Pokexel", and that press release also said "island of Tumblecube" which is a "term" we also do not use. (Everywhere else is consistently Tumblecube Island). I'm of the opinion we should flag that press release as a mistake, which would actually mean binning this page wholesale. Salmancer (talk) 22:53, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

There's no information here, merging it into variant Pokémon seems perfectly fine to me. glikglak 01:07, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Deeper again: Pokexel is used in the press conference [2], multiple times. So it is a real term of nebulous "in worldity". In particular, "So this title began with the concept of these cube like Pokemon that we're calling Pokexels", "Pokemon Quest features the Pokemon that appeared in the Red and Green games but in their Pokexel form", "So I'm sure players will enjoy seeing the familiar Pokemon that they love in their new Pokexel designs...", and "Pokemon Quest takes place on Tumblecube Island, where Pokexel reside". There's that word though, "form". It's a key word. Which means something maybe? Salmancer (talk) 16:14, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
