Burn Up and Double Shock

Should these two be grouped, with appropriate tables at the end of their pages?

PP (Again)

Given that this topic has been discussed many times above, there seem to be two camps on the issue: those who separate Aqua Jet and Quick Attack based on PP, and people like me who think that Prismatic Laser is basically Hyper Beam. The current standard is that accuracy and power must match exactly and PP must be within 5, while additional effect chance and to some extent type may vary. I do not believe 5 PP should remain the standard, as neither group is satisfied (see 2 topics above) and different moves can be included depending on the selection of the "base" move (see above). Without having been part of previous discussions, why should there be only one 'similar moves' list? We could have subcategories, in the same way that physical and special variants of otherwise identical/similar moves are grouped. Gunzel73 (talk) 05:14, 21 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm not clear on what you're suggesting. Are you saying there should be additional pages with different thresholds for what makes a move similar enough? That would solve the lack of consensus for the definition, but it would (I feel) also be redundant, arbitrary, and confusing. Eragon4 (talk) 01:27, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm not quite saying that's what we should do, only that it's an option worth considering. Agree there's a risk of redundant categories. However, I'm thinking more about the template level, not the page level, so it shouldn't be too intrusive? Gunzel73 (talk) 13:11, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
As it stands, the templates link here, and although some discrepancies may exist, it's better to avoid the double standard. I saw a suggestion to switch to literal categories for looser groupings (e.g. Category:Moves that require recharging), and this does work in some cases, but is less user-friendly. Octazooka

I believe Octazooka has a 50% chance to lower accuracy, not 30%. Would this make it not a variation? FrankTheTank000 (talk) 03:47, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Flame Charge/Struggle Bug

Should this be broken up into two variations? One for raising stats and one for lowering them? FrankTheTank000 (talk) 21:20, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Gyro Ball/Electro Ball

Not sure that these should be considered variations of each other. I get that they're both speed-related ball moves but the way they calculate their damage is completely different. Gyro Ball scales inversely with the user and target's Speeds, but Electro Ball has only 5 possible damage values FrankTheTank000 (talk) 21:27, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Iron Tail/Dragon Rush

If two moves have both different PP and different percentages for their (in this case, different) effects, should they really be considered variations? FrankTheTank000 (talk) 21:33, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sludge Wave/Moonblast fall under this too FrankTheTank000 (talk) 21:48, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Psybeam/Sludge

Should this be broken up into two variations? One for the 10% moves and one for the 30% ones? FrankTheTank000 (talk) 21:43, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
