That's what this page is. It goes into the utmost detail about what seems like EVERY SINGLE FRIKKIN' TIME Staryu appears (now that I look at the history, it looks like our resident Starmie fan was responsible for the expansion). Is it really necessary to do this? I mean, if there's no reason NOT to, then by all means leave it. But considering how excruciatingly specific it is... I dunno. It's up to you guys whether or not to cut it down. Mostly I'm just sore because it took me forever to do all the cleanup for this. --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 21:54, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Well, It has a lot of detail and is extremely accurate. There's no reason to change it back or cut it down. In fact I even nominated it to be a featured article candidate. Wikid 00:05, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Why did you nominate it Wikikid?--CoolPikachu! 00:15, 15 July 2008 (UTC)::Well like I said on the featured article candidate page, when I read it it just blew my mind. It is very in depth and details the entirity of Staryu's tenure in Misty's team. Featured articles are suppsoed to be an example of some of Bulbapedia's finest and I think this article contains a level of quality that bulbapedia articles should strive for. Wikid 02:12, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, according to your stardard, we can nominate the Movie 10th article with all the plots that has already been cut into smaller size LOL. Quality is better than Quantity. -Billy4b2004 09:34, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

I've added a battle record to the page, wanting to have something a bit original, and to show I've not just recorded every time Staryu appeared, I don't have a complete memory of all the battles that took place with Staryu though, so any help would be greatly received and appreciated. Also, if anyone knows how to make the table less 'wonky', again, I'd be very gracious. user:Starmie121 14:49, 19th October 2008 (UTC)

Think the table is a really good idea, made a few minor changes, will help however I can--User:Kukisanban 21:24, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Most Recent Appearance

This page doesn't state when Stryu's most recent appearance was, can someone add it please? XVuvuzela2010X 15:53, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Actually, it does:

Staryu was called on once more in The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon.----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 15:55, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

I seen that but I wasn't sure if that was its actual last appearance or just another appearance, since it doesn't clearly state so. Would it be OK for me to change it to Staryu's last appearance to date was in The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon.? XVuvuzela2010X 16:20, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Staryu is Genderless

Clemont's Magneton is Genderless. Why not Misty's Staryu? --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 15:38, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

My guess is that it's because Misty's Staryu (and her Starmie as well) debuted at a time when Pokémon genders did not exist in the Pokémon games. AGGRON989 16:20, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Plus, the Japanese version of EP007 explicitly says all Staryu are hermaphrodites. --DarthNightmaricus (talk) 05:49, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
The biological concept of hermaphroditic species cannot be simply mapped onto the Pokémon gender of "genderless". To do so would be a massive assumption; it's incredibly frequent that the Pokémon franchise ignores or outright contradicts things that are scientifically true in the real world (see, for example, Pokémon evolution vs. scientific evolution). This point regarding Staryu, Starmie, and Clemont's Magneton's genders in the anime is really confusing and inconsistent. The pages state that their genders are either unknown or only confirmed in the games, but this isn't done for other species that have set genders. For instance, all 30 of Ash's Tauros are listed as male since it's a male-only species in the games, and Brock's Chansey is listed as female since it's a female-only species in the games; but apparently genderless species in the games don't get the same treatment and need to be outright stated in the anime, as if there's any other option? I don't understand the inconsistency in handling this. Hyper Turtwig (talk) 01:16, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
