Talk:Magic Bounce (Ability)
Absol
Just wondering, why is Absol on the list of pokemon eligible to have Magic Bounce? There doesn't seem to be be any evidence it can have Magic Bounce as an ability. - unsigned comment from TordenOfItami (talk • contribs)
- Mega Absol has been revealed to possess this ability. The template hasn't been fixed to display Mega Evolution abilities yet, but it is being worked on. --Pokemaster97 02:11, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
what would happen?
Hi,i was wondering about the nature of this ability. Both bulbapedia and the games suggest that it "reflects" the effects of status moves, but what was displayed when the ability works are more like the effects were negated and the move is reused by the magic bounce owner (I'll shorten it to MBO from now on). So I have some questions. What would happen if 2 turn status moves are used against the MBO? If it was "reflected",it will be executed at that turn, but if it was "negated and reused by MBO",that Pokemon would charge that turn,am I correct? Also, what would happen to moves that affects the user and target Pokemon, like, say there's a move that raises the user's attack and lower target's defense. If it was "reflected",the user would have +1 attack and -1 defense, but if it was "negated and reused" it could mean that either the user gets -1 defense and MBO +1 attack,or user +1 attack -1 defense and the MBO +1 attack. I'm aware that I could very well be wrong, and any correction is appreciated. And P.S. I didn't think moves with similar effects with the ones I mentioned exist,if they do,could anyone tell me how they are affected by magic bounce?

- There is only one 2-turn status move, that being Geomancy, which only affects the user, so it cannot be reflected by Magic Bounce or Magic Coat.
- There is no move that increases the users stats and decreases the target's stats (or vice versa). Best thing I can think of is Rototiller used by a grounded Grass-type Pokémon with Contrary while the opponent is a grounded Grass-type Pokémon with Magic Bounce; however, Rototiller affects all Pokémon, so is not reflected.
- We can't really speculate how such moves would interact with Magic Bounce and Magic Coat, since no such moves exist. --SnorlaxMonster 12:27, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you. I know, speculating things that doesn't exist would be pointless. I just wanted to know how this ability works. I did further digging (as I should have sooner) and noticed that Parting Shot's bulbapedia page suggests the "negate and reuse" effect. But I remembered (I didn't record this,so this isn't confirmed) in a triple battle,Dark Void affects only non-MBO target, and only the dark void user is put to sleep by magic bounce, and if it's true then it only "reflects". Bulbapedia pages for dark void and other status moves with all adjacent target don't mention their interaction with magic bounce,so what I mentioned kinda needs confirming. Anyway,i just want to map out this ability's effects,I hope this isn't too bothersome. But you're right, without more data there's nothing to be done. Fiky f (talk) 16:37, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
Move Magic Coat's table to Magic Bounce's page
Seeing as Magic Coat is no longer available in Gen IX, it would make sense to move it to this page, as Espeon is very unlikely to ever become unavailable in future generations due to popularity, so no risk of not having Magic Bounce in future generations. --AsparagusEduardo (talk) 20:09, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with either doing this, or to create a new page and move the list of reflectable moves there.
- We could copy and paste the table we have on Magic Coat to Magic Bounce or on a new page, but we would also need to check which moves are reflected and are not reflected in Generation IX, as there is no column in Generation IX due to Magic Coat's unavailability.
- Also to note that at the time of me adding this comment, the infoboxes on moves on Bulbapedia, including moves introduced in Generation IX, currently show "Affected by Magic Coat and Magic Bounce" if the move can be reflected by Magic Bounce. IsaacAndHisIsaac (talk) 10:09, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- Actually, not sure on what to do just yet. Magic Coat was introduced in Generation III and Magic Bounce was introduced in Generation V. And unless Magic Coat is going to be added to Pokémon Champions in the future (which I don't see that happening), we'll have to rearrange the information at some point. We have a few options:
- Move the whole table to Magic Bounce (therefore removing the table from Magic Coat) then we'd also have to link the table from Magic Coat, which wouldn't make sense given that Magic Bounce wasn't added until Gen V.
- Copy the whole table to Magic Bounce (therefore keeping the table in Magic Coat), also a possible solution and very unlikely that any edits to the table columns from earlier than Gen IX would need to be made, barring any errors that may have been missed, but if it does need to be edited for any reason, the tables on both pages would need to be edited.
- Leave the Gen III and Gen IV columns on Magic Coat, move Gen V columns onwards to Magic Bounce and link the Magic Bounce table from Magic Coat for reflected moves from Gen V onwards.
- Leave the current table on Magic Coat, make a new list for Gen IX onwards and link the Magic Coat table from Magic Bounce for reflected moves from earlier generations.
- Add a separate page for a list of reflectable moves, then link that page from both Magic Coat and Magic Bounce (therefore consolidating the list of reflectable moves into one page - the reflected moves from Magic Bounce are the same as those from Magic Coat).
- Maybe the last one (creating a new page for list of reflectable moves) is the best option? IsaacAndHisIsaac (talk) 14:22, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
