Ability Variants

Should this ability be considered a variant of Moxie? TechSkylander1518 (talk) 20:53, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Chart with Pokémon that have Beast Boost have unnecesary information

Below the section there's a "Please note that this is only 100% accurate to Generation VII games." with some shamples but, these are Gen VII Pokémon so... it's trully necessary? - unsigned comment from Boog1000 (talkcontribs)

That's part of the template we use for all Ability articles. It's not something we can just remove, and even if it was, it'll be necessary once Generation 8 eventually comes out, so we would just have to add it back at that time. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 22:07, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Wording and stat modifiers

The page states "does not take into account any modifiers caused by status conditions, items, or moves;" - the thing is that stat modifiers (such as Attack at -2) is also not taken into account, and that can also be caused by Abilities (such as Intimidate). Should this be mentioned somehow specifically? Also, "or moves" doesn't make sense - stat modifiers aren't considered, but Power Trick etc (which are definitely moves) are. I think this article should be reworded because I find it confusing the way it is. For example, Pheromosa who has highest Attack stat and had it at -2 still got an Attack boost from Beast Boost, despite "now" its highest stat being SpAtk stat (because of the stat modifiers). When you say -2 (from something like Intimidate, that's usually referred to as "stages", not "modifiers". Here on BP in particular, that's the terminology we'd like to work with. Tiddlywinks (talk) 18:26, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
Oh ok I see, that's a good terminology, that makes sense. However, the "moves" part still feels weird because if we're not talking about stages (which would otherwise be mentioned, right), how else can moves affect this? Besides the ones listed, which are then considered modifiers? Why say "moves cannot affect this" and then list several that can..... KingisNitro (talk) 18:38, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
I believe this is really about effects, not move vs. non-move. I tried to reword it, hope it's fine. Nescientist (talk) 19:42, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
Well of course it's about effects, but what effects do moves have? They either raise/lower the stat stages (Swords Dance) or they can swap them (Power Trick). There isn't really much else they do, or is there? That's why I didn't feel the wording was appropriate for the situation. I think it's ok now, thank you. I think it's extremely dubious for this to be considered a signature Ability. Eleven Pokemon have it, none of which are related by evolution (except Poipole/Naganadel, which weren't even introduced yet when this was deemed "signature"). We don't consider Overgrow/Blaze/Torrent to be signature Abilities, so why should this be any different? Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 18:24, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

Indeed, it wouldn't make any sense for Beast Boost. As mentioned on this site, "signature Ability refers to an Ability that only one Pokémon, or only one evolutionary family of Pokémon, can have". Thus Beast Boost is shared by more that any of those as mentioned before. Sure it may be an exclusive ability , but its note exactly a signature to be honest, it just like the startler Pokemon shared ability. So how exactly does that count as a signature ability and trivia worthy?Jacob Kogan (talk) 18:40, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
There seems to be a discussion over on the signature Ability page (albeit an old one) where it was brought up that the Swords of Justice are considered related enough to share signature moves, and even from the signature Ability page I can see Turboblaze/Teravolt being shared between Reshiram/Zekrom and their respective Kyurem forms. For the record, I'd argue that UBs are more of a label like Legendary or Mythical rather than an actual group like the Swords, which would disqualify Beast Boost as a signature Ability (if all Legendary Pokémon had a common Ability, we wouldn't list it as signature, would we?), but I'm not too familiar with the lore in this area to be sure.--Cold (talk) 20:07, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
